Presbytery Profile: Stated Clerk, Blake Brinegar

I grew up on a college campus, where my parents were University administrators. I have one older brother who is a professor of Medieval Literature at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. I attended Boise State University where I started as a Nursing major but graduated with a degree in Communication and a minor in Gerontology. While in college, I attended a local congregation and was mentored by a campus Pastor who truly helped me to discern a call to ministry. In college I also worked on the stage crew in the fine arts auditorium, where I got to see many musicals for free, actually I got paid to watch them.

After College, I went to Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and graduated with my M.Div. While in Seminary, I interned in Summerville, South Carolina for a year, attended the US Army Chaplain School for Officer Basic, and did my Clinical Pastoral Education at Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, TX. I went to seminary with several of the ministers in this presbytery, but we are all sworn to secrecy. My mother followed me to seminary. After she retired, she too attended Austin Seminary, earned her M.Div. and served a rural congregation in Oakland, Oregon for 7 years.

Once I graduated from Seminary, I accepted a position as the Director of Church Growth and Older Adult Ministries in Bryan, TX, for a couple of years before being ordained. I then served congregations in Crockett, TX, Houston, TX, King of Prussia, PA, Yellville, AR, and currently serve in Searcy, AR. I became the Stated Clerk on October 1, 2022.

Throughout my ministry, I have found myself providing ministry in a variety of contexts. I worked in hospitals, psychiatric units, long-term care facility, in a fire department, in a police department, and in the Army. These varied experiences have helped to offer me a broad experience of addressing spiritual needs in a variety of contexts.

In my spare time, I fish, hike, hunt, camp, and ride my mountain bike. I like to spend time and play games with my wife, Elizabeth. We also have a dog, Maisie, and a cat, Snape. I am excited to serve as your Stated Clerk and look forward to working with the congregations of this presbytery. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at or call me at 870-321-9102.
