A Letter From the President

First off, thank you to all who participated in the Chamber’s annual gala! That includes our wonderful volunteers, sponsors, attendees, our amazing staff and yes, a live horse!

Because this Chamber is incredibly active with what we do for our members and the community, we have quickly moved on to the month of March and all that is scheduled to make it a great month of engagement and partnerships!

I want to bring to light the 60+ nonprofits who do so much for our community, the people they serve and the LS Chamber. The LSR-7 school district created an event two years ago called 100 People Who Care. Knowing that many of our nonprofit members were participants, I wanted to see how the event worked firsthand. What I experienced was a great night filled with incredible stories from several of our Chamber-member nonprofits. I knew then that the Chamber needed to become involved.

I connected with Dr. David Buck, Superintendent of the LSR-7 School District, and asked if the Chamber could partner with the district to promote the event. I couldn’t think of a better way to showcase our nonprofits as well as accomplish one of the Chamber’s goals of community collaboration and partnership.

The concept is easy; the nonprofits who register are entered into a drawing where four lucky winners are selected to present who they are and what they do to the audience. The audience is asked to bring blank checks or cash in the amount of $100. The ultimate goal is that 100 people will give $100, equaling $10,000!

Concluding the presentations, those in the audience who brought their blank checks and cash have the honor of picking the winning presentation and handing over the $100s right then and there. The nonprofit winner will walk away with an amount that could equal up to $10,000!

It’s a fantastic opportunity to get to know our nonprofits better and more importantly, show our support by donating. This spirit of generosity is what makes our community so special!

Mark your calendars for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at East Trails Middle School, and come support the 100 People Who Care event.

Blaze your path and have a great March!

Grow Personally & Professionally with the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce

Since 1946, the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce has continuously received praise and acclaim for its innovative and fresh thinking. Our Chamber is one of the most dynamic in the region, but its monumental successes would not be possible without our volunteers, past and present board members, and community ambassadors responsible for our recruitment and retention programs.

We're excited to share this video that perfectly captures the work we have been doing in our community for nearly 80 years. This video originally premiered during The Summit Derby Feb. 8, 2025 and was filmed, produced and edited by Blume Video Marketing. Check them out today at blumevideo.com.

Strategic partnerships are collaborative relationships formed between individuals or organizations with aligned goals and mutual benefits.

These partnerships are crucial in both personal and professional contexts, as they offer opportunities for growth, knowledge sharing, and increased influence. To cultivate them effectively, it’s essential to approach these relationships with a mindset of trust and transparency. Personally, this can be achieved by actively listening, offering value without expecting immediate returns, and showing genuine interest in others’ success.

Professionally, strategic partnerships thrive on clear communication, shared objectives, and leveraging complementary strengths. Presenter: Jane Monroe

The diversity of our workforce continues to expand and in 2024, there are five different generations in the workforce each bringing their own set of values, beliefs, and ways of completing work. Cross generational collaboration is critical for organizational success, but communication barriers have created tension in the American workforce for decades.

While the generations we are born into do not define us as individuals, they can provide clues to help us work together more effectively.

As the workforce changes, it’s possible to create engagement, loyalty, and high productivity!

Connecting Our Community

February Highlights

Recess For Success

Our latest Recess For Success was an in-depth session covering everything you need to know to stay compliant after Missouri voters passed Proposition A — changing Missouri’s paid sick leave law and minimum wage.

Do not fall into a trap of waiting too late or assuming any legal challenge will stick – the minimum wage already went into effect and you must continue to prepare for the massive change to paid sick leave requirements!

Our guest speaker Lauren Sobaski of Fisher Phillips LLP discusses critical deadlines, essential employer actions, and the serious penalties for non-compliance in the video above.

Thank you to Kind Body Wellness for sponsoring this informative session.

2025 Annual Gala: The Summit Derby

Our 2025 Annual Gala: The Summit Derby was a thrilling night of derby games, Southern-inspired food and a silent and live auction. We could not have done it without the support of our Chamber board, volunteers, staff and members like you! Photos above courtesy of Photo Sponsor Ryan Alcantara Photography.

A huge thank you to the following sponsors, displayed in the image below. The Chamber continues its tradition of championing the business community thanks to generous donors like you.

Chamber After Hours Networking Event:

K1 Speed

We spent our Chamber After Hours for the month of February in the fast lane at K1 Speed!

Our Chamber After Hours Networking featured delicious food and friendly competition while members mingled and made new connections.

K1 had exclusive deals for our members including discounted racing packages and giveaways.

What a way to round out the work week.

Monthly Membership Luncheon

We were proud to welcome Jill Hathaway, the Regional Director for the Missouri Small Business Development Center, to our monthly membership luncheon at Faulkner's Ranch!

After a delicious meal provided by Faulkner's Ranch, Jill spoke about the SBA's programs as well as touched on currently funded small business programs available in the metro.

It was an informative session sponsored by PNC Bank!

Chamber Before Hours Networking Event:

Henry W. Bloch School of Management at OverBoard Coffee

We had an amazing morning at our Before Hours Networking Event, hosted at OverBoard Coffee and sponsored by UMKC Henry W. Bloch School of Management!

Julie Smith, Recruiter for the Graduate Programs, shared her inspiring journey to UMKC, and gave us a glimpse into the opportunities available at UMKC.

As Kansas City’s premier school of management, the Bloch School is nationally recognized for its focus on entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, helping professionals and organizations achieve sustainable growth in business, public service, and nonprofit sectors.

Members enjoyed meaningful conversations, new connections, and of course, a delicious cup of hot coffee paired with tasty breakfast treats.

A huge thank you to our hosts for making this event a success!

Chamber Young Professionals Icebreaker Night at KC Mavericks Game

Our Chamber Young Professionals had a blast watching the KC Mavericks take on the Utah Grizzlies Feb. 26 at Cable Dahmer Arena during our Chamber Young Professionals Networking event.

Nearly 20 young professionals packed the suite — making a ton of new connections while enjoying food, drinks and some good ol' hockey.

Thanks to our sponsor, Boyd Kenter Thomas & Parrish, for making this night possible!
