Letter From The Principal

I sent my oldest off to college this past August. As expected, I had a mix of emotions, and moments of panic, leading up to the big day when we would drive her to campus, move her in, and drive away with an empty backseat. I questioned if I had done enough as a parent to prepare her for the next level of learning and life. I’ll repeat that process again after my youngest daughter completes her senior year of high school next year and heads off into the next phase of life.

In typical parent fashion, I have hopes and dreams for my daughters. Likewise, they have plans for themselves. I wonder, though, what steps God will establish for them.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9

As I reflect on this past year’s theme from Proverbs, it’s easy to fall into a sense of fatalism that we are simply pawns in God’s grand scheme. Yet the author of Proverbs recognizes our ability to plan and envision and act while reminding us that God will ultimately direct us according to his will. While that may seem unsettling, it also provides a sense of comfort, knowing that God is not just a “big picture God,” but that he is also in the details, guiding us in the way he wants us to go. It might be difficult. It might be painful. It might be disorienting, but we have to trust that God has a purpose in how he directs us.

As we raise our children and, as educators, teach our students, we find reassurance in knowing that, even if their plans and actions diverge from what we would prefer, God is ultimately watching over them and establishing their steps. We, in turn, are part of helping to establish sure footholds for them in this world.

I don’t know what lies in store for my daughters or myself for that matter. I don’t know what the future holds for BCS as we search for a new administrator, contemplate plans for expansion, and stand firm in our mission and vision in an ever changing world. It’s an exciting but uncertain time. Yet there is always one constant: God’s faithfulness.

I trust that the plans we make will be in alignment with God’s will and that he will establish our steps and lead us down the path that he wants us to walk, providing clarity and direction. I trust that he will direct my daughters as they venture off on their own. I trust that he will guide us as teachers as we wake up each school day and support our learners. And I pray that he will point to the destination for you and your children as you step through each day and beyond.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9

Congratulations,

Class of 2023!

The Class of 2023 walked the stage on June 2, 2023, joining over 700 alumni of Brookfield Christian (and Milwaukee Christian) School.

Mrs. Lynn Veldhouse spoke to the class about how will God direct their way through the good times and the not so good ones, as they head off to high school and beyond. The class chose "Graves Into Gardens" by Brandon Lake and Elevation Worship as their class song.

They will be attending nine different area high schools, where they will continue to learn, to lead, and to serve faithfully in God's world. We can't wait to see where God leads each of these students as they go forward in faith.

BCS Auction 2023

We had an incredible evening at the Harley Davidson Museum as we gathered for the 2023 BCS Fellowship Dinner and Auction. It was a joy to witness everyone engaging together to build community, celebrate our school, and support Christian education!

Together, our generous community raised $229,606. The Fund-A-Need portion totaled a record-breaking $115,750!  This amount was over double the goal of $50,000 to seed the Special Needs Fund in order to open our arms as wide as possible to offer Christian education to a broader demographic of learners.

  • The most popular package was Reserved Premium Parking with 72 bids
  • We sold 414 raffle tickets, raising $7,135
  • 764 total silent auction bids were placed
  • 108 people participated in Heads or Tails

We are looking forward to next year’s event. Stay tuned for more details to come. Be sure to follow the Auction on Instagram and Facebook!

BCS Athletics

Jon Mulder, Athletic Director

Katie Van Arendonk, Track Coach

It was a great year for BCS Eagles Athletics! Many coaches and volunteers pitched in to help coach our student athletes and host athletic events. Several teams received new uniforms due to the continued growth of our programs.

This year Eagles Volleyball had 50 girls in 5th-8th grade participate. We had three head coaches and many assistants that helped out. At the end of the season, the 6th grade team took second in the LACC conference tournament and 8th grade took first in their conference tourney.

This fall BCS Cross Country had 20 participants. Some highlights from the season:

Molly Wolff took 1st in the WCHSA Invite

Nolan Henderson and Molly Wolff finished top 10 at the Griffen Invite

Colin Vander Vliet finished 3rd at the Brookfield Academy Meet

Eagles Basketball had 70 participants between boys and girls in 5th-8th grade. We had 6 head coaches and many assistants.

6th Grade Girls took first place in conference tournament and the 5th grade girls took second

5/6 Boys took first place in conference tournament

7/8 Boys took first place in conference tournament as well as first place at CSI Tournament

The BCS Track & Field team boasted an impressive 68 student athletes on the roster for the 2023 season. Five parent volunteers collaborated to coach the team. Our 5th-8th grade students competed in five track meets in April and May. Throughout the entire season, these athletes braved the unpredictable Wisconsin weather! They showed up to race, throw, and jump in rain, wind, near freezing cold temperatures, and even some unseasonably hot and humid weather. Their parents came out to cheer and support them in all of these conditions too! Well done, BCS Eagles, on another great season.

If you’d like to loan us something, we can arrange that, as well. We’d LOVE to get as many photos from the last 60 years as we can. Questions? Need more info? Contact Jill Baker, [email protected].

Our enrollment has surpassed 300 students and we are stretching the limits of our functional capacity and physical facilities.
