| Robert K. Stohr, M.S., L.M.F.T, Executive Director U.S.VETS Robert K. Stohr is currently serving as the President of the Board of Directors for the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He has been a licensed clinician for over 25 years, with 8 years of specific experience in the field of suicide prevention. He currently serves as the Executive Director of U.S.VETS - Bob Hope Patriotic Hall, the largest nonprofit in the country working with homeless veterans. He has been implementing suicide prevention in this national organization, training both staff and executives. Robert’s clinical and training skills in suicide prevention and mental health issues have been developed and applied in specific populations including but not limited to veterans, seniors, LGBTQ, and TAY communities. He has extensive experience in the development and implementation of innovative programing including, peer programing & case management, working in community mental healthcare with veterans, suicide attempt survivors, suicide loss survivors, and clinicians. · Clinical expertise in suicide prevention, clinician training, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, program development and implementation. · Developed suicide prevention training for mental health clinicians with the medical director from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. · Extensive training experience working with educators, students, veteran service providers, parents, medical providers, and corporations. · 25 years as a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, specializing in communication training for industry and educational settings. · Lead Author of SPRC Best Practice, Manual for working with suicide attempt survivors. · 8 Years’ experience working in the field of suicide prevention and veteran specific mental health assessment and treatment strategies. Relevant Project Experience · Currently working with the Mayor’s Challenge team to reduce suicide in the veteran community for the City of Los Angeles; Orange County Health Care Agency with implementation of veteran mental health program on 8 community college campuses; U.S.VETS’ pilot program for mental health and suicide prevention for women veterans; and U.S.VETS’ national veteran employment program with emphasis on using peer veteran talent specialists. · Working with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) National Loss and Healing Council. · Co-Chair of AFSP’s annual International Survivor of a Suicide Loss Day. · Serving on the Board of AFSP’s Greater Los Angeles/ Central Coast Chapter for strategic planning, fundraising, and delivery of trainings in suicide prevention. · Developed suicide prevention summit for Los Angeles and Northern California on statewide best practices and common metrics for crisis line programs. After Mr. Stohr earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, he graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Masters of Science in Educational Psychology. |
