MEET THE PANELISTS

Dr. Kathryn Graham

Professor, Research Impact Assessment, University of Calgary

Kathryn is a Professor of Research Impact Assessment at the University of Calgary, “where we transform inspiration into impact”. Her name is synonymous with advancing both the science and practice of economic and societal impact in Canada, after nearly 30 years dedicated to advising organizations on how to strategically design, implement and scale for impact. She is an Organizational Psychologist by training with a passion for optimizing organizational performance. She is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and co-founder of the International School on Research Impact Assessment to train the next generation of impact professionals. In 2022, Kathryn received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta) and in 2023, she was a co-recipient of an International Startup Ecosystem Star Award for building local innovation ecosystems. She is a bridge builder and brings international experience and innovative practices to bear when fostering a positive impact culture.

Dr. Judith Terstriep

Head of Research Department, Westphalian University Gelsenkirchen, Institute for Work and Technology

Dr Judith Terstriep (Economist) – is Head of the Research Department »Innovation, Space & Culture« at the Institute for Work and Technology at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen and lecturer at the Ruhr-University Bochum. She has long-term experience in innovation research. Primary research interests involve the interplay of innovation, (social) relations, knowledge and society from the perspective of innovation, management and spatial theory contributing to just transitions and societal change. Focal work areas cover social innovation (impact) measurement, entrepreneurship, regional development, sustainable transformative and mission-oriented innovation policy, and sectoral and regional analyses. She teaches at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum on the topics of ‘Social Innovations’, ‘Regional Innovation (Eco-)Systems’ and ‘Migrant Entrepreneurship’. Judith is well-experienced in coordinating European, national and regional joint projects and has been appointed an expert by the European Commission, federal ministries and various foundations. She received her doctorate from TU Hamburg. Currently, she coordinates the joint project GIs – Strengthening Societal Innovation Capacity funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research Germany, which analyses societal innovation capacities in less developed regions aiming to formulate explanations and models that shed light on generating transformative innovations facilitating successful regional transformation. Additionally, the project is dedicated to crafting tools and measurement methods for an innovation policy that effectively integrates and fosters societal innovation capacities. 

Dr. Stuart Wilkinson

CEO, Knowledge Exchange UK

Dr. Stuart Wilkinson is the CEO of Knowledge Exchange UK, a world-leading professional association for Knowledge Exchange practitioners. He oversees the organization's strategic direction and drives initiatives to empower professionals in the sector that enable collaboration between universities, business and other organisations. 


Prior to his role leading Knowledge Exchange UK, Stuart was the Assistant Director of Innovation and Engagement at the University of Oxford, and Innovation and entrepreneurship Fellow of Reuben College. He has held a number of knowledge exchange roles in technology transfer, regional innovation, entrepreneurship and social impact through which he has gained multifaceted insights into the innovation ecosystem.

Dr. Serenity Wright (Moderator)

Senior Associate Director for Social Innovation,

UK Innovate

Serenity Wright, Ed.D. currently serves as the Senior Associate Director for UK Innovate, where she develops and manages new innovation and entrepreneurship programs focused on inclusive innovation and creating equitable access to entrepreneurship and innovation training for underrepresented innovators at UK and in Kentucky. She is a passionate leader driving economic development through transformational change initiatives rooted in social innovation, entrepreneurial equity and genuine creativity by building integrated systems with research, business and policy.


Serenity earned her doctorate from the University of Kentucky in policy, measurement and evaluation. She taught high school for eight years, served as the Associate Dean for Diversity and International Students Services at Transylvania University, worked in city government and served as the Gatton Honors Pathway Director and Co-Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Gatton College of Business and Economics.
