Letter from the Director

A personal note from Yvonne regarding the future of the Van Lunen Center

Dear Van Lunen Center Friends,

In the fall of 2007, the Van Lunen Center was a fresh idea with a bold mission: to serve and equip heads of schools based on the historic Christian faith. Today, as we prepare to welcome our 20th cohort of Fellows and our 4th cohort of Ascending Leaders, that "idea" has become a vibrant, global community of practice.

It has been a deep joy for me to be part of this journey at Calvin University since the very beginning. However, as I look toward the Center’s next twenty years, I believe it is time for a new director to step into this story. I am writing to share that I have notified our Governing Board of my intention to conclude my service as Director on July 31, 2027.

While this marks a significant personal change, please know that the mission remains constant. Over the next year, my focus will be entirely on serving our current cohorts and working closely with our board and faculty to ensure a smooth, thoughtful, and seamless transition. The core values that have always defined us—being distinctively Christian, big tent, excellent, diverse, collaborative, and practical—will continue to guide the Center as the Board seeks its next leader.

I am profoundly grateful for the personal and spiritual growth I have experienced alongside each of you. Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I remain fully committed to our shared vision, and I look forward to celebrating our progress and working together in the months ahead.

With deep gratitude and hope,

Yvonne Ferwerda

Director, The Van Lunen Center
