A Letter From the President

It's crazy to believe that 2025 is just over a month away. This year sure has flown by! Like many of you, the Chamber is hard at work planning for the upcoming year.

As you continue to map out your 2025, I encourage you to consider the opportunities the Lee’s Summit Chamber provides in promoting your business. Members receive the exclusive opportunity to be a part of our VIP partnership program in addition to your membership investment.

Chamber partnerships are a unique marketing tool reaching both Chamber member businesses, as well as the local community. Your business automatically gains the publicity and brand recognition you need, in a positive and receptive environment in front of a number of business and community leaders year round.

The Chamber offers a variety of partnerships, allowing you to combine all or some of our events into one package.

We have created a menu from which you can customize your partnership. If you are already planning to participate in some of our events, a partnership package can save you money – and gives you great year-round exposure in our weekly e-blasts, Chamber Link newsletter, Chamber publications, signage and more.

Take a look at the Partnerships Guide below and consider the opportunities, then select the package that best fits your business.

The deadline to sign up for a 2025 Partnership Package is Friday, Dec. 13, 2024. You’re welcome to pay in 2024, or may request to be invoiced after the first of the year, depending on your preference.

If you have any questions, please call or email me at your convenience at 816.524.2424 or mbaird@lschamber.com.

If you would prefer to sponsor individual events, we will be providing a list of those options in the near future so that you can budget accordingly.

These options range from small to large event sponsorships. Monthly event sponsorships are sold on a first-come, first-served basis so if you are interested, we would encourage you to act quickly!

Call the Chamber office to reserve your spot. Thanks!

UCM Names Crowley New Provost

University of Central Missouri President Roger Best recently named Tim Crowley, DMA, as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. Crowley has served in an interim capacity since July 1 and officially began his duties on Nov. 1.

Upon announcing his decision Best said, “I am grateful for Dr. Crowley’s willingness to serve as UCM’s next provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. During his campus interview, he expressed a clear vision for Academic Affairs and a plan for realizing that vision. He has a strong record of demonstrated achievement resulting from diligent effort that is grounded in collaboration and the betterment of those around him. I look forward to working with Dr. Crowley to accomplish the university’s priorities, goals and objectives.”

Best’s announcement marks the conclusion of UCM’s national search to fill the provost position after Phil Bridgmon, Ph.D., who had served as provost since 2019, accepted a new role in South Carolina. Best added that he wished to express, “My appreciation to the Provost Search Committee for bringing to campus three excellent candidates.”

Connecting Our Community

October Highlights

Innov8

Several area high school students spent a day last month reimagining the world around them at our Innov8 Entrepreneurship Workshop!

These students learned how to develop creative and innovative products and services — then pitched their ideas to a panel of judges.

Much like contestants on "Shark Tank," they had to field some great questions about the feasibility of their products.

Our judges included: Brian Hubert of EJCB American Family Insurance, Eric Johnson of AlphaGraphics Lee's Summit/Belton, and Ashley Muffitt, Mid-Continent Public Library.

Shoutout to the always incredible Brandon Banks for facilitating!

Special thanks to MCC-Longview for hosting us and TPC Interiors, Inc. and Tingle Flooring for sponsoring this impactful program!

Chamber After Hours

Networking Event: Budget Blinds

Our October Chamber After Hours Networking Event at Budget Blinds Lee's Summit - was so much fun!

Huge thank you to Budget Blinds for hosting us to tasty bites from Konrads, sweet treats from Nothing Bundt Cakes and Bronson's signature punch.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of fun and connections!

Chamber Staff Retreat

We had an amazing time during our annual staff retreat at Colonial Gardens.

They organized a scavenger hunt that had us picking apples, petting alpacas and cutting our very own floral bouquets.

After making our own apple cider with the apples we picked, we all came together to come up with our goals for the next year. We each chose a plant to represent a goal and planted them all together.

This year we will water them and see how much they grow and thrive - just like our teamwork!

Special thanks to the entire staff at Colonial Gardens for their work in preparing this fun afternoon for us!

General Election Candidate Forum

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Lee's Summit voters cast their ballots in the General Election.

To better inform the general public, the Chamber hosted a candidate forum Oct. 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Missouri Innovation Campus. Attendees heard from the candidates for House Districts 30 34, and 35 and learned where they stand on important issues facing the community.

The public was welcome to attend this free event to hear candidates answer questions in a forum-style setting.

To ensure the community is fully engaged in the forum, the event was streamed LIVE on Facebook and shared on YouTube as well as posted on the Chamber’s website.

State of the Schools Luncheon

Our State of the Schools luncheon last month filled us with pride as we learned more about the goals, initiatives and successes of our area schools!

Representatives spoke from St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School, Summit Christian Academy, the Blue Springs R-IV School District and the LSR-7 School District. We also heard from Missouri's 2025 Teacher of the Year - Jennifer Jones - who works in the LSR-7 school district!

Special thanks to our sponsor Mascot Junction for making this event possible! And to the Missouri Innovation Campus for the space and El Plato for the delicious meal.

We sure do love shining the spotlight on area educators who impact our entire community each and every day with the work they put in. We wouldn't be where we are today without you!

Chamber Before Hours Networking Event: Pro Deo Youth Center

During October's Before Hours Networking Event, members gathered with excitement as they got a sneak peek into the plans for Pro Deo Youth Center’s new building!

The designs are set to bring incredible opportunities for the Lee’s Summit community, positively impacting countless kids and families. Pro Deo’s programs already play a transformative role in the lives of local students, and this new facility will expand their reach even further allowing for MANY more kids!

Elaine Metcalf shared her enthusiasm, saying, “We’re beyond thrilled to have the designs ready for Pro Deo’s new youth center. This development is a monumental step forward in supporting the students and families of Lee’s Summit.”

Chamber Young Professionals Networking Collaboration with Independence Chamber

Our Chamber Young Professionals had a blast at Main Event in Independence as we networked with the Independence Chamber's Young Professionals group!

We took part in some friendly laser tag (okay, it was very competitive!) and bowled while learning more about other young professionals in our area.

We can't wait to do it again soon!

Chamber Before Hours Networking Event: Pro Deo Youth Center

Our Trunk or Treat Spooktacular was a spooky success again this year! This is our annual Chamber Young Professionals Fundraiser. Our YP Group has a blast organizing it!

A huge shoutout to our sponsors:

  • Foundation Recovery Systems, Title Sponsor
  • Spire, Supporting Sponsor
  • Rayhons Financial Services, Hot Chocolate Sponsor
  • Attic Storage Woods Chapel, Bag Sponsor

We also want to give a big thank you to our incredible trunk and trail vendors who brought so much fun and creativity to the event! We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us – we had a blast and hope you did too!

Congrats to our contest winners!!
