Communications Intern

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Communications Intern to join our team. This internship presents an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in communications within the nonprofit and agriculture sectors, particularly within the realm of agricultural education.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Graphic Design: Develop visually appealing graphics, infographics, and other visual content to accompany social media posts, blog articles, and promotional materials. Proficiency in graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
  • Content Creation: Assist in developing engaging content for our website and social media platforms. This may include writing articles, creating graphics, and curating relevant content.
  • Social Media Management: Help manage and grow our social media presence by scheduling posts, engaging with followers, and monitoring analytics to track performance.
  • Donor Communications: Assist in donor communication, such as donor tax receipts and attending donor-centric events such as trade shows, expos, and foundation events. (Travel expenses will either be covered by the Foundation or reimbursed)
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with team members across different departments to ensure consistency in messaging and branding efforts. Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to contribute ideas and strategies for effective communication.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor's or master's program, preferably in agriculture communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Virginia FFA, the agriculture industry, and agricultural education are considered essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and creativity in storytelling.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Previous experience or coursework in communications, marketing, or public relations is preferred but not required.

 

Duration and Compensation:

This is a part-time, paid internship position with flexible hours, ideally requiring an average commitment of 5-10 hours per week. The hourly rate is $15 per hour. The duration of the internship is negotiable, as duties can be assigned year-round. We are happy to work with academic institutions to provide course credit if applicable.
