Hear from Camilia who had never used a sewing machine before

Camelia (wearing the apron she made during the Sewing MachinEase workshop) tells us that before this workshop, she had never touched a sewing machine before.

Camelia loved the day and is now planning to buy her first sewing machine.

Roxy, had some experience of sewing yet still learnt loads of new techniques

Roxy has sewn a little before and was delighted with all the new sewing machine skills she learnt at Sewing MachinEase workshop.

Roxy highly recommends the workshop even if you do have some experience sewing.

FAQs

Is Sewing MachinEase suitable for rank beginners?

The Sewing MachinEase Workshop is specifically designed for beginners and I will provide personalised attention and guidance to help you feel confident and comfortable with your sewing machine.

During the workshop, you'll learn all the essential skills needed to operate your machine, including threading, stitching, and troubleshooting common issues.

I’ll share my secrets to perfect stitching and provide tips and techniques to help you achieve professional-quality results.

I already know how to thread my machine and adjust the dials, buttons, and knobs, so will Sewing MachinEase still be suitable for me?

Even if you already know how to thread your machine and adjust the dials, my Sewing MachinEase Workshop will provide you with a comprehensive overview of essential sewing skills, including troubleshooting common issues and achieving perfect results every time.

I will provide personalised attention and feedback to help you improve your technique and achieve even better results.

You'll be able to ask questions and receive guidance on specific projects you may be working on.

You'll have the opportunity to learn from your fellow attendees, share tips and tricks, and receive feedback and encouragement from others who are passionate about sewing.

Do I need to bring my sewing machine/will there be sewing machines to use?

It's best to bring your own machine so you can practise on your specific machine and get familiar with what it can do.

However, if you don’t have your own sewing machine yet, I have a limited number of sewing machines available for rental on a first-come, first-served basis for an additional fee of £20 (let me know in advance).

These machines are high-quality and easy to use, and I'll show you how to operate them to achieve perfect results.

Alternatively, you could borrow a machine from a friend or family member for the day.

Will I get a chance to sew or will I just be watching?

Sewing MachinEase is a hands-on interactive workshop where you will be practising the skills I show you so that you walk away with the confidence to use your sewing machine on your own.

You will also get to practise your new skills on a practical and useful apron project which will be a beautiful reminder of the skills you’ll acquire during the workshop.

You will have the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands, which can be a rewarding experience in itself.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes.

Wheelchairs and electric scooters are welcome at the Chiltern Open Air Museum, where the workshop will take place.

Our building, Thame, where the workshop will be held, has a ramp to enter, making it easy to access. And there are designated disabled spaces close to the Museum entrance as well as accessible toilets.

What are the lunch arrangements/I have dietary requirements?

You can bring your own pack lunch - there are lots of picnic benches on site.

Or you can buy food at the Village Kitchen where there is a wide selection of healthy (and slightly naughtier) treats.

They cater for a wide range of diets with lots of allergen and vegan friendly options.

Where in the museum will Sewing MachinEase take place?

We will be in Thame Vicarage which is on the village green.

Normally set up as a Victorian School room we convert it to a lovely, airy, fully equipped sewing room and it’s where I host the Volunteer Sewing Workshops for the Chiltern Open Air Museum.

I live far away, is there somewhere to stay overnight?

Yes, there are lots of local hotels and B&Bs nearby - just ask Google.

How many in the class?

Class size is limited to a maximum of 8
