Join us for Recreation Weekends, a new fall series. Enjoy the outdoors as you spend the morning learning new skills. These workshops are perfect for bringing friends and family together to embrace more of what nature has to offer. All workshops are 3 hours and taught by certified instructors. Let fall be the beginning of a new adventure for you as you participate in fishing, outdoor cooking or archery -- or all three!

Family Fishing Skills Workshop

October 9

9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Cost: $5.00/person

Includes Entry Fee

Bring the whole family for a morning of learning the basics of fishing -- knot tying, safety, casting, fish identification and much more. Participants will move through stations learning the skills needed to become a competent angler. Fishing from the wetland shoreline will be part of the fun. After completing all the stations, you will receive a Basic Angler Certification and a fish recognition pin! We want to thank Texas Parks and Wildlife for making this event possible. Please Note: This is a special event. Fishing is not allowed at the Wetland Center by the general public.

Outdoor Cooking Workshop

November 20

9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Join us as we delve into the world of outdoor cooking! Learn the proper way to use and care for iron cookware, the value of prep work and tips to make outdoor cooking successful AND fun! This interactive class includes a delicious brunch of Cowboy Coffee, Mountain Man casserole and warm cinnamon rolls that we’ll roast over the flames. Come with an appetite and be ready to enhance your outdoor cooking skills!

Youth Archery

Archery is a skill that has been around for tens of thousands of years and is still used in outdoor sporting events and competitions. This workshop focuses on the beginning skills needed on your journey to becoming an archer and marksman, including safety, equipment use, eye dominance and target practice. All equipment is provided and archery basics are taught by a certified instructor.
