VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

FOOD PACKING - SECOND THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH 3 Hr

A team of 7 members/potential members carpool to LovExtension in Tavares. Volunteer hours for each person is approximately 3 hours including travel time. It is an assembly line process for about one hour to fill 175-200+ individualized grocery bags to be delivered to homebound clients of LovExtension.

HARBOR VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE

By late November HVES gives us a list of 30 children identified as needing a special gifting for the holiday. The child has a list of sizes for clothing, underwear, socks and toy wishes. One, two or three members choose one student and go shopping. The budget is up to each shopper/shopper group but generally $75-100. The school asks us DO NOT WRAP. We place our purchases for one child in a large gift bag and attach the child/family identifier to the handle or place inside the bag. Bags will be provided.

FOOD DRIVES - FALL AND SPRING

In the Fall and Spring our club hosts a food drive. We obtain permission to place boxes ad some of the recreation centers in The Villages for 3-4 weeks. Members monitor and periodically pick up donations.

We also obtain permission to be at the entrances of WinnDixie Stories in The Villages. On a Saturday in the Fall and in the Spring members take shifts to be at the designated stores from 9 AM-1 PM. Food and cash donations are collected.

The Food Pantries that will benefit are involved these days.

HARBOUR VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - DOLPHIN DEPOT

The school as a store for the students to spend their Dolphin Dollars earned by developing good works and good habits. The store is open 3-4 times each school year for one week. Our club provides volunteers to help the students with their transactions. It is EASY and FUN, just ask Norm, Joe and Diana.

HARBOUR VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - CHRISTMAS ANGEL SHOPPING

Late November and early December HVES Gives us information for 30 students at need for holiday gifts. Then our members go shopping. We use large gift bags and fill with a top, pants/dress, socks/underwear and a toy/fun item. The member or pair of members donate the cost which varies between $50-$100.

BOOKWORKS BOOK DELIVERY

BookWorks is a program of Goodwill-Suncoast. Goodwill takes children books that are donated, either new or gently used, and curate them for Title 1 schools located in several counties including Sumter & Marion counties.

They contact us 2-3 times each school year to make deliveries of requested books to the schools. Members donate their time and mileage to make this happen.

We have collaborated with BookWorks to also include Hope Lake Weir Food Pantry and a Little Free Library in historic Royal just outside The Villages.
