Join us to enhance wildlife habitat in the Nature Learning Center's pollinator garden. This is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on the environment and to earn community service hours.

The Nature Learning Center is located behind Aqua Adventure Waterpark.


Free parking is available on a first-come first served basis throughout Central Park.


If possible, park in the north end of the Aqua Adventure parking lot. Enter the trail north of the parking lot, and stay to the left. the Nature Learning Center will be on your left.

Restrooms:

There are restrooms just northwest of the Nature Learning Center.

Who:

Ages 12 years & up

Volunteer Tasks may include:

  • Propagating, planting or maintaining native plants
  • Removing invasive plants
  • Removing litter
  • Sheet mulching
  • Maintaining compost
  • Updating greenhouse

Bring:

  • Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots   
  • Outdoor work clothes, long pants, socks, and a long-sleeved shirt
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A packed lunch
  • For wet conditions: waterproof boots, raincoat / poncho, rain pants
  • Gloves and tools will be provided. If you bring your own, please label them.
  • A face covering such as a disposable or reusable mask (optional, useful to avoid inhaling allergens)

If you are enrolled and need to cancel, please use this Parks & Rec Contact Form. Choose "Refund/Withdrawal for an Activity"). This allows us to offer the available space to the next volunteer on the wait list. (If the form is unavailable/ not working, please email Sabrina with the name of the volunteer to be withdrawn, the event location and date.)

Poison Oak Precautions:

There is a possibility of encountering poison oak in the garden. Cleaning aids to remove poison oak oils from skin will be available, as needed.

COVID-19 Safety:

  • While Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted in many locations around the state, the health and safety of our volunteers remain our top priority. Please do not attend the event if you have recently tested positive for Covid-19 or are experiencing any symptoms of Covid.

FAQs

Rain/ Poor Air Quality Plans: 

The event will go on, rain or shine: tasks may be completed inside the Nature Learning Center classroom.


If the Air Quality Forecast for the South Central Bay is 151 or higher (Unhealthy or worse), then the volunteer event will be canceled. If it is 101-150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups), the event will proceed, inside the classroom. Participate at your own risk.


If you are enrolled, you will get an email the morning of the event if it is cancelled.
