A Letter From the President

May 4-10 was a very special week for all small businesses here locally in Lee’s Summit and across the country.

That week is recognized as National Small Business Week, which acknowledges the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. It's a time dedicated to officially recognizing their hard work, ingenuity, and dedication including their contributions to the economy.

This special recognition has been in place for more than 60 years and the Lee’s Summit Chamber is fortunate to represent many of those businesses right here in the Kansas City region.

The Lee’s Summit Chamber takes pride in knowing how strong our local economy is, thanks in large part to our small business community. From entrepreneurs to start-ups to those businesses scaling and growing, our small business community is the heart of every community, especially Lee’s Summit.

The Lee’s Summit Chamber just celebrated five member businesses with the Excellence in Business Awards. And like the title says, these businesses represent the best in our community — Excellence, Professionalism, Customer Service, Loyalty and my favorite, they each have Character in how their business performs each and every day.

So, I encourage you to thank a small business for what they do daily to make our community and this country who we are.

Be awesome today!

April Highlights

Legislative Day in Jefferson City

On Tuesday, April 1, our Leadership Lee's Summit Class and a few Chamber members headed to Jefferson City for a Legislative Trip to Missouri’s capital, diving into history, government, and some delicious local eats along the way!

Here’s a recap of our educational and fun day:

- Fueling Up for the Journey – We kicked things off with a hearty breakfast at Security Bank, where we enjoyed great food and conversation before boarding our charter bus to Jefferson City!

- Stepping into the Past at Missouri State Penitentiary – Our first stop took us behind the historic walls of one of the oldest and most infamous prisons in the U.S. During our hour-long tour, we explored the prison grounds, learning about its eerie history, the former inmates who once called it home, and what daily life was like within the towering walls.

- Lunch & Legislative Insights – After a fascinating morning, we headed to Central Bank of Jefferson City for a delicious lunch (and some amazing ice cream!). While there, we had the opportunity to hear from Luke Reed, Director of Legislative Affairs for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, who provided updates on Proposition A and childcare initiatives affecting our state.

- Inside the Missouri Governor’s Mansion –

Next, we toured the historic Missouri Governor’s Mansion, which has been home to Missouri governors since 1872. We learned about the mansion’s history, including how it was built in just eight months—largely by prisoners from the nearby penitentiary!

- Exploring the Missouri State Capitol –

Our group then walked to the Missouri State Capitol, an architectural masterpiece resting on a limestone bluff above the river. We toured its stunning murals, intricate sculptures, and breathtaking dome before witnessing a live court session on the School Choice bill. Some of us even made the exhilarating climb up to the top of the Capitol dome for an unforgettable view of the city!

- Meeting with Missouri Supreme Court Judge W. Brent Powell

– A highlight of the day was an insightful Q&A session with Judge W. Brent Powell of the Missouri Supreme Court, where we gained valuable perspectives on Missouri’s judicial system.

- Wrapping Up with Dinner & Delays – To close out our adventure, we enjoyed some sandwiches at Arris’ Pizza for dinner, sharing laughs and reflections on an eventful day. A delayed Amtrak ride home gave us even more time to connect and explore!

A day filled with history, leadership, policy, and camaraderie—this trip was truly one for the books! Thank you to everyone who joined us for this incredible experience.

A big thank you to our trip sponsors:

Chamber After Hours Networking Event

We celebrated Gameday Men's Health's first anniversary in style during our April Chamber After Hours Networking Event!

With a few competitions, giveaways and plenty of food and drink, it was a fun night spent making new connections.

Owner Ari Sattarin said it's been a very exciting year for his business.

"In the past year as I reflect, one of the best parts has been how quickly we can transform and help people," he said. "From hormone replacement therapy, TRT, ED, weight loss and peptide and vitamin therapy to overall wellness, how quickly we see results and turnarounds in the first or second follow-ups has been the most satisfactory part for us as a business."

Ari said if you're curious about your numbers or any services they provide, feel free to stop by for a free consultation and on-site lab testing.

Check them out today at 200 NE Missouri Rd. STE 303 in Lee's Summit!

Goody Bags for Teachers

In April, our Education Committee helped prepare goody bags full of snacks, sweets and treats for local teachers and education professionals across Lee's Summit!

We had a blast packing the bags (provided by Brain Balance Centers) and hand delivering them to the teachers - as pictured here with Rachel Dicke, Owner of Clothes Mentor - Lee's Summit, MO.

The Chamber is proud to support education and educators in Lee's Summit and beyond. Thank you for the work you put in each and every day to build up our future workforce. It does not go unnoticed!

Special thanks to our Education Committee for volunteering to make this happen.

Economic Development Panel

LS Chamber President Matt Baird had the honor of representing the Chamber on a panel hosted by the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council in April.

Representing the other civic organizations were Donnie Rodgers, Executive Director of Downtown LS Main Street; Cori Day, Executive Director of Lee’s Summit Tourism; and Joe Perry, President of LSEDC.

The panel highlighted the importance of each organization and how their collaborative efforts have greatly enhanced the growth and vitality of the Lee’s Summit community.

Chamber Before Hours Networking Event

Thank you to Collins | Webb Architecture and ProlificPT Health & Fitness for hosting our April Chamber Before Hours networking event!

  • Herndon Career Center Director Dr. Cheryl Reichert
  • MCC-Longview President Dr. Ryan Crider

This year, we received numerous qualified applicants, and after a rigorous interview process by members of the Chamber's Education Committee, these five leaders were chosen and honored at our April Monthly Membership Luncheon Friday, April 25.

Congratulations to our scholarship recipients - your futures are bright!

Special thanks to our Education Committee for your hard work in reviewing dozens of applications!

Fun Fridays Networking Event

Another Fun Fridays Networking Event in the books — and this one was extra special!

Not only did we have a packed house with record-breaking attendance, but we also had the honor of welcoming students from the Global Prep Squad at Summit Technology Campus — a student-led business that's part of the international studies program there.

These bright young leaders had the chance to connect with local professionals, gaining real-world experience and sharing their innovative ideas with Chamber members.

We love when community, education, and business collide in the best way!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day a success!

Join us at our next Fun Fridays Networking Event on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 8:30 a.m.
