Legislative Day in Jefferson City |
| On Tuesday, April 1, our Leadership Lee's Summit Class and a few Chamber members headed to Jefferson City for a Legislative Trip to Missouri’s capital, diving into history, government, and some delicious local eats along the way!
Here’s a recap of our educational and fun day:
- Fueling Up for the Journey – We kicked things off with a hearty breakfast at Security Bank, where we enjoyed great food and conversation before boarding our charter bus to Jefferson City!
- Stepping into the Past at Missouri State Penitentiary – Our first stop took us behind the historic walls of one of the oldest and most infamous prisons in the U.S. During our hour-long tour, we explored the prison grounds, learning about its eerie history, the former inmates who once called it home, and what daily life was like within the towering walls.
- Lunch & Legislative Insights – After a fascinating morning, we headed to Central Bank of Jefferson City for a delicious lunch (and some amazing ice cream!). While there, we had the opportunity to hear from Luke Reed, Director of Legislative Affairs for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, who provided updates on Proposition A and childcare initiatives affecting our state.
- Inside the Missouri Governor’s Mansion – Next, we toured the historic Missouri Governor’s Mansion, which has been home to Missouri governors since 1872. We learned about the mansion’s history, including how it was built in just eight months—largely by prisoners from the nearby penitentiary!
- Exploring the Missouri State Capitol – Our group then walked to the Missouri State Capitol, an architectural masterpiece resting on a limestone bluff above the river. We toured its stunning murals, intricate sculptures, and breathtaking dome before witnessing a live court session on the School Choice bill. Some of us even made the exhilarating climb up to the top of the Capitol dome for an unforgettable view of the city!
- Meeting with Missouri Supreme Court Judge W. Brent Powell
– A highlight of the day was an insightful Q&A session with Judge W. Brent Powell of the Missouri Supreme Court, where we gained valuable perspectives on Missouri’s judicial system.
- Wrapping Up with Dinner & Delays – To close out our adventure, we enjoyed some sandwiches at Arris’ Pizza for dinner, sharing laughs and reflections on an eventful day. A delayed Amtrak ride home gave us even more time to connect and explore!
A day filled with history, leadership, policy, and camaraderie—this trip was truly one for the books! Thank you to everyone who joined us for this incredible experience.
A big thank you to our trip sponsors:

Chamber After Hours Networking Event |
| We celebrated Gameday Men's Health's first anniversary in style during our April Chamber After Hours Networking Event!
With a few competitions, giveaways and plenty of food and drink, it was a fun night spent making new connections. Owner Ari Sattarin said it's been a very exciting year for his business.
"In the past year as I reflect, one of the best parts has been how quickly we can transform and help people," he said. "From hormone replacement therapy, TRT, ED, weight loss and peptide and vitamin therapy to overall wellness, how quickly we see results and turnarounds in the first or second follow-ups has been the most satisfactory part for us as a business."
Ari said if you're curious about your numbers or any services they provide, feel free to stop by for a free consultation and on-site lab testing.
Check them out today at 200 NE Missouri Rd. STE 303 in Lee's Summit! |
