A Few Previous Sister Scholars Experiences

"Dr. AnneMarie Mingo and Sister Scholars was a gamechanger in my completing my dissertation. Sister Scholars is a safe harbor for Black female scholars, which provides great coaching and accountability. It is a community full of wisdom and support like very few other spaces. The environment is conducive to not only dreaming about the scholarship you desire to create but also developing strategic plans to realize the dream. With a spirit of kindness and compassion, Dr. Mingo keeps us focused and on track and she makes sure there is always space to celebrate along the way. As I prepare for my next season in the Academy, Sister Scholars is at the forefront of my mind as a safe space for me to do the work my soul must have." - Felicia, Spring 2023

"Sister Scholars was a key component in my ability to draft, write, and defend my dissertation. I set a goal to finish my PhD in 4 years, and I did it! Every week we met I looked forward to meeting with The Women hearing the wisdom that came forward in our group. Our sessions were informative and the topics specifically addressed the needs and concerns of Black Women in academia and public life." - Lahronda, Spring 2022

"Sister Scholars has given me the systems I need to move to the next phase of my doctoral studies. I was nervous about the discipline needed to prepare for comprehensive exams. Sister Scholars has given me tools to be confident and successful. Writing in community makes all the difference in the world." - Moya, Spring 2022

"Sister Scholars has been an invaluable part of my experience as an academic. The group has helped me to reach important milestones in my career such as publishing articles and finishing chapters of my book manuscript. Equally important to inspiring productivity, being in this group has helped me find and hold on to the joy of writing. I'm so grateful to be a part of Sister Scholars." - Ashleigh, Spring 2021

"Sister Scholars was a space for me. It was safe, affirming, and stretching. The sisters believed in me and they understood my voice. I am grateful for a privileged space create just for me." - Karen, Fall 2020

"Without the support of my sister scholars I could not have been as productive in that space of time. The experience was a huge boost to my scholarly identity at a time when the imposter syndrome was getting real. Being in community with these brilliant Black women weekly was an intellectual tonic." - Catherine, Fall 2020

"The group sessions and focused discussions have truly propelled my academic career and I have accomplished so much in months that I've wanted to do for years. Though short, the focused discussions have enlightened me to things I didn't know I didn't know but needed to know!" - Mesi, Summer 2020
