| ABOUT THE PROGRAM: From the beginning, Christianity has been a cornerstone across the entire American story. However, after centuries of growth, there has now been a generation-long decline in Christian practice across the country, with "The Nones“ — those who consider themselves spiritual but not tied to a specific dogma — the fastest-growing U.S. "religious" category. This significant decline in American Christianity is the most-talked-about story in religious news today because it reflects so many of the social, political, and cultural trends impacting Americans, both religious and secular. Behind the data are real-life stories filled with emotion, drama, and life-changing consequences. Christianity at a Crossroads is a 4-part documentary miniseries that explores what is driving this decline, what efforts are being taken to address this foundational shift, and what it means for both individual communities and the nation as a whole.
The series weaves together multiple stories, filmed on location across the country, that explore the critical role Christianity has played throughout American history as well as the contemporary realities challenging its future. It unpacks the consequences of thousands of church closings, denominational splits, an aging population, the explosion of the “mega” church, and the vibrancy in ethnic congregations.
