"God's Work. Our Hands." is the motto of the ELCA, capturing the church's commitment to embodying God's love and grace in the world through service. This aligns perfectly with AdventELC's mission, as we strive to live out this calling in our own community. From now until the second weekend of September, we join the ELCA in celebrating and showing who we are—one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbors.
When we join in serving others we explore and expand upon the foundational Lutheran conviction: that all of life in Jesus Christ—every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life—flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God's grace.
It is serendipitous that "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday is the same as AdventELC's Rally Day as Rally Day marks the start of a new program year, energizing us for the season ahead, while "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday is a day dedicated to serving others, embodying the church's mission.
As we prepare for this great upcoming weekend, our Social Concerns Team invites you to contribute to this mission by donating items for Blessing Bags, which will be distributed to those in need. Collection bins are conveniently located in the Narthex, and we’ll be accepting contributions through September 1st. Our youth will assemble the bags with their BLESSING BAG BONANZA on September 7th, ensuring they’re ready to be shared on God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday. This year, we aim to prepare enough bags to sustain our outreach throughout the winter season. Please remember that all items should be travel-sized.
In addition to Blessing Bags, we are also collecting school supplies for elementary students in Columbus Public Schools. These donations are needed by September 1st. You can find the complete list of required school supplies here.
Thank you for your unwavering generosity and commitment to our shared mission!
