Lee's Summit Medical Center Employees Made 1,200 PB&J Sandwiches for Just a Sandwich as Part of HCA Midwest Health's "We Show Up For Our Communities" Initiative |
Lee's Summit Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City's largest healthcare provider—gathered colleagues recently to make 1,200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Just A Sandwich. The nonprofit organization distributed the sandwiches to individuals in need across the Kansas City metro. The event was part of HCA Midwest Health's annual colleague volunteer initiative, We Show Up for Our Communities Week, with physicians and colleagues donating time and resources to community partners who share a vision to positively impact the lives of residents and visitors across the region. |

Chamber Education Scholarships |
|
Our inaugural Trades Scholarship recipient is Xavier Ellis from Lee's Summit West High School (pictured, center).
Xavier is a member of the Peer Inclusive Environment Program where he helps his peers learn life skills. He has also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club where he taught kids how to swim. He's also a varsity letter winner in soccer.
Xavier plans to pursue a career in aviation to become a pilot like his father. He grew up using flight simulators and attending airshows with his family. He has a wealth of knowledge on both military and commercial aircraft and is eager to follow in his father's footsteps. |

Get To Know Our Education Scholarship Recipients
· Zach Gaylord, Lee’s Summit High School. Zach played varsity soccer, has two jobs, serves on the Superintendent Student Council, is Secretary of the Student Senate, the Class Ringleader, and still finds time to volunteer at Harvesters - The Community Food Network. He and and his family spend their Christmas Eve delivering presents to families in need. Zach plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
· Myah Frashier, Lee’s Summit North High School, is a three-sport athlete and president of the Student Advisory Council. She has spent many hours volunteering for the Special Olympics and dreams of coaching a soccer or swim team for the Special Olympics. She will be attending Clemson University in the fall and plans to be a prosthetist-orthotist.
· Mia Myers-Ray (not pictured), Lee’s Summit West High School, is a violinist, a Student Ambassador through the Kauffman Foundation, a member of Suburban Balance, and a track and field athlete. Mia is a longtime volunteer with University Health Mobile Market. She aspires to compete in track at the collegiate level and attend HBCU where she will study pre-med with the dream of one day becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
· Elissa Hesman, Summit Christian Academy, is the National Honor Society President, a member of the Student Council and a varsity cheerleader. She spends her time serving her church and community at her Church Café and coaches young athletes at Xtreme Gymnastics. She plans to attend Grand Canyon University this fall.
· Aubrey King, Blue Springs South, is a softball player, a member of HOSA, and the National Honor Society. She attended the Elite Los Angeles Eve & Gene Blackwell Summer Program and spent a great deal of her time as an A+ Tutor to elementary students. Aubrey will be attending UMKC this fall where she will study health science and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to purse her dream of becoming a Pediatric Nurse. |

Chamber Young Professionals Service Project |
Our Chamber Young Professionals volunteered with the LSR-7 Build Zone Project to guide fifth graders through the process of building their very own birdhouses! This was a great way to encourage hands-on learning and help kids discover the excitement of engineering! |

Chamber Before Hours Service Project |
Our April Before Hours took place at Hillcrest Transitional Housing's Thrift Store in Lee's Summit. Volunteers helped sort through clothing, home goods and furniture to get the store prepared for its daily operations! |

Goody Bags for Whiteman Air Force Base |
Dozens of our members donated branded items, gift cards and experiences to the Chamber's welcome bags initiative for the families stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base. These bags will help bring more business to Lee's Summit by encouraging families to shop local! |

Legislative Day in Jefferson City |
Chamber members and participants of the Leadership Lee's Summit Program journeyed to Jefferson city in April to meet with our local legislatives, speak with Gov. Parson and tour the Capitol building.
It was a full day of advocacy, learning and exploration! |

We celebrated the retirement our beloved Director of Financial Operations Cathy Young in April. We sent her off with a reception fit for a queen! Thanks to all who stopped by to show her support during this important moment in her life. |

Entrepreneurship Kickoff Event |
We fanned the flame of entrepreneurship in our community during our Entrepreneurship Kickoff Event April 18.
Small business owners, startups, entrepreneurs and all members of the public were invited to network and help build a framework for the future of entrepreneurship in Lee's Summit.

Meet Rhonda, Our New Bookkeeper |
Rhonda is a Lee's Summit native who has been in the accounting world for the last 12 years. She graduated with her bachelor's degree at Graceland University and received her master's degree at KU. She is a Certified Public Accountant and will be taking on a bookkeeper role here at the Chamber.
In her free time, she loves to visit the dog park and spend quality time with friends and family. |
