Excuse #1: I don't know where to begin.

I know, I know...starting new things can be scary. We have a rhythm. For many of us, we know how our day is going to go from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed. It's become our natural routine. Trying something NEW - like leveling up for a new role or pivoting to a new industry is freaks us out. Not because we aren't capable of performing the work successfully (we actually KNOW we can do well), but because it's NEW and uncomfortable. And, if we're real with ourselves, we don't like discomfort.

Here is the challenge I offer you. Which discomfort are you willing to sit in longer: 1) the discomfort of being in a role or job that you've outgrown and no longer enjoy or 2) the discomfort of trying something NEW ? Choose your discomfort.

Excuse #2: I have great benefits.

This is a tough one. As a first-gen Latina, I was taught to get a good job, with good benefits, and STAY. And, yes, you have a good job with GREAT benefits, probably with great retirement and/or pension! It's very easy to stay because we want that financial security. We believe, that by staying, it's the only way, we can be financially secure. It doesn't matter, if our environment is toxic - toxic colleagues or leadership. It doesn't matter if our heart is no longer in it anymore.

It doesn't matter because the story that we're telling ourselves is that, "If we leave our great benefits we're setting ourselves up for financial ruin and insecurity." And, I'm here to tell you, that is FALSE! I've been there and done that too!

Excuse #3: All I know is (insert your field of work).

That too is a lie. Your field of work is a a field (or aka an industry); it's not a skill. As brilliant women, we have a ton of skills that are transferable in several industries. We just have to know what those skills are, how to package them, and communicate our VALUE to other industries. It can be done, because I did it. If our heart is no longer in our current field, then we don't need to suffer. We don't need to sacrifice our joy because of our limiting beliefs. We can leave and move onto something else that aligns better with our values and wants.

So, no more telling yourself, "que no se puede", because I'm here to tell you, que si se puede. I went from classroom teacher to corporate trainer to now executive coach and consultant. All skills that I learned and refined throughout my career journey; you can do the same.
