THIS SUNDAY AT UUFC

Before Gandhi's work in India, he fought for the rights of Indians in South Africa and founded a movement based on Love for All. It was called Satyagraha. Let us explore how Gandhi defeated tyranny with love, non-violence, and a devotion to the Hindu principle of ahimsa.

Join us in Clemson at 10:30am or watch online.

Children's Religious Exploration is in our summer schedule. There will be no formal classes, but we will offer a supervised quiet reading space and a craft and activities area for children 12 and under. The nursery will remain open.

Do you have something you are celebrating? Or maybe something you are struggling with? Let us know! Significant accomplishments and hardships may be shared below, with permission. Please submit Celebrations and Concerns on one of the cards (green) at Sunday service, use this simple form, or send an email to admin@uufc.org. On Sunday's paper submissions, you must check the "I give permission to share. . ." box for your submission to be considered for publication.

  • Mike Kohl is recovering from surgery to have a non-cancerous mass removed. He is at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
  • Jorge Medina received word of the death of his brother, Ramón, on Tuesday, July 9 following a 2-year struggle with cancer. Sadly, Ramón was the 4th and last of Jorge's brothers to die- all since 2019. Jorge and Paula also mourn the unexpected death of Ramón's wife, Olga, only just hours before Ramón's passing. She had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer 6 weeks earlier and was Ramón's primary caregiver. Jorge welcomes cards, phone calls, and text messages. Please contact the office at admin@uufc.org for his contact information.
  • Benedetta shares a concern that Joachim had a fall on Sunday and is under observation for a kidney injury.
  • Carol Ward is moving into Clemson Downs soon and her adorable, loving, elderly cat, Sweetie, needs a new home. Thanks for considering adopting Sweetie into your loving home.

Bring your own snacks (if desired) and join us in the Social Room to watch Cooked: Survival by Zip Code. In a 1995 heatwave, "more than 700 Chicagoans died in a single week. When peeled away from the shocking headlines the story reveals the less newsworthy but long-term crisis of pernicious poverty, economic, social isolation and racism." $5/person suggested donation to cover building costs. For more information, contact Kathy Crain or Dave Sanders.

Saturday, July 13 at 8:30 - 11:30am: Garden Team Workday

We'll be cleaning up the bed at the entrance to the main building. Bring clippers, loppers, trowels and plenty of water. We'll have a mid-morning break for watermelon, and a pizza lunch will follow. For those of you who provide flowers for the services, there are plenty in the Sanctuary Garden, if you'd like to use them!

Saturday, July 20 at 8:30am: Meditation Morning

The Tuesday Evening Meditation Group would like to restart the beloved tradition of Saturday Meditation. This time we are just doing a one-time meditation morning to try it out. Our meditative morning will be followed with a potluck at noon in the social room. See the Agenda (subject to change) and join us! All are welcome.

Various Dates & Times beginning in September: Circle Dinners

Circle dinners are a wonderful way to connect to members & friends. The dinners will begin in September and continue for 5 months (skipping November & December). The host contacts the participants, provides the entree and a vegetable. Others bring designated food per a rotation chart: salad/bread, appetizer, or dessert. If you can't commit to 5 months, sign up (see the BIG YELLOW poster in the social room) to be on the substitute list. For those who stream the service, if you experience a problem with the livestream, please email vwf@uufc.org during the first 30 minutes of the program, telling the problem you are experiencing and someone will respond to you. Thank you to our volunteers for offering this service and for our loyal livestream viewers! If you ever miss a service or if there is trouble with the livestream, you should be able to find it later on our youtube page.

LITTLE RED WAGON

Every Sunday during service, the children collect donations for Clemson Community Care and place them into our little red wagon. They need donations of food to help meet the needs of the community. There is currently a need for the following items: Oatmeal, granola bars, peanut butter, jelly, mixed vegetables, soup, green beans, canned potatoes, canned beans, pasta sauce, dry pasta, shelf stable milk, corn, canned meats, fish, dish & laundry detergent, diapers-size 3 & 4, shampoo and toothpaste.

LISTENING DEVICES AVAILABLE

We have small radio receivers that pick up the sound from our AV system and transmit it to your ears, via headphones or telecoil. These are on display in the back left corner of the sanctuary, beside the AV systems. If you have hearing aids with telecoil, all you have to do is turn it on and use one of our T-coil necklaces. Otherwise, you can use one of our new headphones. Stop by before the next service and try it out! Contact techstuff@uufc.org with any questions.
