| Why Butterflies? As a teenager, I used painting as a coping mechanism to balance the various struggles I went through with self-esteem and confidence. Growing up, I learned about the butterfly and became motivated and hopeful by its story of breaking through that dark cocoon and becoming a beautiful butterfly on the other side. There was one quote that always stuck with me, “if you help a butterfly out of its cocoon, it won’t be strong enough to fly”. That quote helped me find my inner strength to persevere through the hard times. In art class, I learned a painting technique that brought warm and cold colors together in a very interesting way - to me, this symbolized harmony, and from then on, I started painting beautiful butterflies that included all these different colors in the wings. The process of using your pain, turning it into power, and making something truly beautiful was the best therapy ever. When designing our first print, there was no question that it HAD to be the butterfly! |
