We are a special program because of the innovative curriculum that focuses on preparing students to be successful in health and biomedical professions, in a flipped classroom format with small classroom sizes and active learning.

Interprofessional Education (IPE) Opportunities:


BMED students who would like to participate in clinical experiences with healthcare professionals have the opportunity to apply to the BMED Scholars. If not selected, as a BMED Scholar, students can still contact the Director for opportunities in interprofessional activities.

Study Tips to help you succeed 


  • Plan ahead the steps needed to pursue career of choice ( Understanding why you are doing what you are doing, provides motivation to study)


  • Organize and manage time; be proactive, and don’t procrastinate


  • Test yourself with quizzes, end of chapter problems and with peer and team study, to check for understanding and ability to explain material 


Choose Your Pass

  • BMED Honors students are offered scholarships by Honors college. UTRGV offers scholarships to outstanding students (Read More)



  • BMED faculty offer undergraduate research assistantships to students in their labs, if funds are available.

Program Schedule

Salaries vary depending on profession and educational level (Generally 25,000-45,000, if a school teacher or lab technician with a BS degree).

Who do students contact if difficulties are experienced in major courses?


Students can contact the professor, the Instructional Facilitator, coached study leaders and peer mentors or visit the Learning Center for tutoring help with major courses.
