Vision

The Feeder Canal Alliance is launching a $500,000 capital campaign to develop a unified wayfinding and interpretive signage network along the historic 7-mile Feeder Canal Park (+2 miles along the Empire State Trail to Fort Edward).

The signage network will be supported by a fully integrated digital wayfinding website that reflects the trail signage, safety guidance, and key points of interest.

Connections

"A trail system is only as good as its connections. We have worked incredibly hard in Queensbury to build out networks like Halfway Brook and Rush Pond Way. This wayfinding grant provides the literal map that ties the Feeder Canal Trail directly into our broader town and county system, ensuring a cyclist can safely navigate from our local parks all the way across New York State."

Challenges

Today, limited navigation makes it difficult for recreational trail users to safely cross urban intersections, locate historic landmarks, and access nearby downtown businesses (see existing signage below). This project will close that gap while clearly identifying key connections throughout Warren and Washington Counties.

Solutions

"We are a community of shared strength and resilience, and our progress doesn't stop at our city borders. Connecting Glens Falls seamlessly to our neighboring towns via a standardized, professional trail-marking network shows what we can accomplish through strategic, regional teamwork. It allows us to chart a bright, connected path forward for the entire corridor."

-Mayor Diana Palmer

City of Glens Falls, NY

ECONOMIC TOURISM & VITALITY

Connects the multi-use path to our collective downtown business districts, encouraging pedestrians and cyclists to visit local shops, restaurants, lodging, and cultural destinations.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Adds durable educational kiosks that highlight Upstate New York’s industrial history and explains how the canal supported the region’s timber, paper, and manufacturing industries.

SAFETY

Clearly identifies trailheads, parking areas, and complex road crossings to create a safer, more accessible experience for users of all ages and abilities.

Community Support

First completed in 1830, the Glens Falls Feeder Canal served for over a century as a vital commercial highway, carrying North Country lumber, lime, and marble to global markets while fueling the growth of our local downtown economies. Today, it operates as an invaluable cultural and recreational anchor.

Investing in the capital campaign offers you a strategic opportunity to connect with over 100,000 annual trail users.

Our Goal: $500,000
