As the temperatures start to drop and the crisp September air rolls in, it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy everything fall has to offer without the summer heat! Whether you're looking for weekend adventures or after school outings, these kid friendly parks are ideal for families who want to stay active, enjoy nature, and make the most of the season.

Shingle Landing Park

Moyock, North Carolina

This one’s extra special to me! Shingle Landing Park is a local gem and near one of my favorite neighborhoods. I’ve made so many memories here. In fact, it’s where I’ve hosted my annual pumpkin party for the past five years, and every year it delivers the perfect blend of wide open space and cozy community vibes.

  • Nature trails lined with tall pines perfect for peaceful walks, jogs, or kid led adventures
  • Colorful, well equipped playground with swings, climbing structures, and slides that keep little ones entertained
  • Spacious open areas spanning over 20 acres, plenty of room for everyone
  • Top notch pickleball courts that attract friendly matches and serious players alike
  • Dog-friendly, picnic tables and grassy areas what more could you need?

Community Access Bonus: The park is nestled in an ideal location with close proximity to hundreds of homes and thousands of residents. Many can reach it by foot, bike, or a quick drive, without ever hitting a major road.

This is the kind of park where the pace slows, the kids unplug, and families find simple joy in being outdoors together.

Insider’s Note: It’s especially stunning at sunset, worth staying a little longer.

Jockey's Ridge State Park

Nags Head, North Carolina
