Storytelling is powerful!


It is a practice that heals, enlightens, and empowers us in our journey for justice.


Join ASJ for a Justice Story Slam! This Moth Radio Hour style storytelling event will feature Grand Rapids youth spoken word poets, Genesis Villafane "Exo" from The Diatribe, an ASJ staff storyteller, and 3 ASJ supporter storytellers.


Enjoy an evening of art, poetry, and justice with drinks and light appetizers.


Storytellers will tell a 5 minute story on the theme Repair: The Gift of Being Wrong using the prompt below.



Share a true story about a moment when you had to admit that you were wrong, or when someone else’s willingness to do the same changed everything. Maybe you saw something differently—about yourself, another person, or the world. Maybe someone extended grace you didn’t expect. Maybe you discovered there was more to the story than you first believed. Maybe you were invited into repair instead of blame. Tell us about the moment that changed what you believed, and what happened next - when being wrong became an unexpected gift.

About Our Featured Artist


Genesis Villafane “Exo”


“Exo” Villafañe, is a Puerto Rican-American poet, born and raised in Grand Rapids. She first encountered the Diatribe when they brought Writing to Right Wrongs to her high school classroom. Under their guidance she expanded her poetic reach, performing at 49507 mural activations and was even a part of the team to pioneer the very first Disruptive Dialogue performance back in 2022. Since then, she’s been attending GRCC in pursuit of a career as an American Sign Language interpreter.

About ASJ

Your donation goes towards furthering the mission of ASJ in Honduras, and we are so grateful for it! Years ago, a team of North Americans and Honduras found that they shared a collective vision of justice for those living in vulnerable conditions. After years of working in development, they realized their efforts were not enough because the systems of government did not respect the needs and rights of everyone. We had one question: how can the systems of health, education, and security transform to support a country where everyone can flourish and experience justice? We knew this journey would be costly and full of challenges, but out of our faith, we found the call to “do justice” and be brave in seeking belonging for all. This work requires action from partners across the country. Join us for this event to learn more and raise support for the work in Honduras.
