Sarah McNeilly (Class of 2025), was honored with the US Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to public health. She also published two papers in the February 2025 issues of: Journal of Patient Experience: Motivational Interviewing is “Doing” What Matters: Integrating Motivational Interviewing Spirit and Skills into What Matters to You: Conversation,” and BMC Health Research Policy and Systems: Towards a Learning Health Care Community in The Bronx: Evaluating the Bridging Research, Accurate Information, and Dialogue (BRAID) Model.” Mentor: Damara Gutnick, M.D.

Tiffany Liu (Class of 2026), Shubarna Akhter (Class of 2026), Hersh Gupta (Class of 2030), and Meagan Khuu (Class of 2026) presented their research on March 8, 2025, at the National APAMSA conference: “Where Are We Now? AANHPI Medical Students’ Utilization of Mental Health Services: Changing Perspectives, Combating Barriers, and Promoting Use Through Interventional Approaches.” Mentor: Priya Nori, M.D.

Congratulations to Rehnuma Khan (Class of 2026), for her selection by the American College of Physicians (ACP) to present at its April 5, 2025, conference. She earned this honor by winning the ACP’s National Abstracts Competition, which allowed to showcase her research, "Atypical Presentation of Severe Reactive Infectious Mucocutaneous Eruption (RIME) Due to Mycoplasma Pneumoniae in an Adult Male Patient," during the ACP Medical Students presentation session. Mentor: Mimoza Meholli, M.D.

Congratulations to the 100 student scholars who showcased their research at the third annual IMPact Day on April 1, 2025! The event featured nine oral presentations and 94 poster presentations, emphasizing the diverse range of projects undertaken by students. Participants from all class years, along with mentors, faculty, and peers, gathered to explore diverse projects ranging from basic science to clinical translational research and community-based initiatives. Sayak Ghosh (Class of 2026), was the first author of a paper that appeared in the March 25, 2025, issue of the Journal of Neuro-oncology, The Impact of Sociodemographic Background on Clinical Presentation of High-Grade Gliomas: A Multi-institutional Retrospective Analysis.” Joshua Reynold (MSTP Class of 2026) was a co-author. Mentor: Vijay Agarwal, M.D.   

William Jerome (MSTP Class of 2030), co-authored a paper published in the March 6, 2025, issue of Pediatrics, Germline Genetic Variant Classification Requires More Equitable Reference Database Representation.” Mentor: David M. Loeb, M.D., Ph.D.

Vanessa Ruiz (MSTP Class of 2026), was first author on a paper published in the February 20, 2025, issue of the journal Frontiers in Immunology, Single-Cell Analysis of CD14+CD16+ Monocytes Identifies a Subpopulation with an Enhanced Migratory and Inflammatory Phenotype.” Mentor: Joan W. Berman, Ph.D.

Albert Wang (MSTP Class of 2026), co-authored a paper published in the February 19, 2025, issue of the journal Science Translational Medicine, Antibodies Targeting Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus GP38 Limit Vascular Leak and Viral Spread.” Mentor: Kartik Chandran, Ph.D.

Tram Nguyen, (MSTP Class of 2027), first-authored a paper in JAACAP Open (in press February 19, 2025), Cannabis Use is Related to Anhedonia in Adolescents with Diverse Mood and Anxiety Symptoms.” Mentors: Vilma Gabbay, M.D., M.S. and Benjamin Ely, Ph.D. (University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Einstein adjunct)

Yakin Jaleta (MSTP Class of 2028), co-authored a paper published in the February 12, 2025, issue of the journal Nature Microbiology, Structural Insights into Tecovirimat Antiviral Activity and Poxvirus Resistance.” Mentor: Kartik Chandran, Ph.D.

Joshua Reynolds (MSTP Class of 2026), was first author on a paper published in the February 11, 2025, issue of the journal Fluids and Barriers of the CNS, Blood-CSF Barrier Clearance of ABC transporter Substrates is Suppressed by Interleukin-6 in Lupus Choroid Plexus Spheroids.” Mentor: Chaim Putterman, M.D.
