Wilson Reading System^® (WRS)

Professional Learning

The Wilson Reading System^® is an intensive reading program that directly and systematically teaches the structure of the English language. Based on Orton-Gillingham principles and the science of reading, the Wilson Reading System is an explicit, multisensory structured literacy program designed for students (grades 2-12) with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia.

The WRS Introductory Course provides an overview of the Wilson Reading System^®, 4th Edition curriculum and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification. This course provides teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the five principles of literacy instruction (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension). This course offers participants hands-on activities utilizing WRS research-based, multisensory strategies to maximize the learning of students with reading difficulties.

Course Content:

• Definition of dyslexia and how to identify common characteristics
• Appropriate student identification and placement
• Program implementation
• Progress monitoring, scheduling, and establishing a successful learning environment
• Principles of language structure 
• Practice how to teach language with direct, multisensory methods 
• Plan and deliver the 10-part Wilson^® Lesson Plan while receiving modeling and feedback from a Wilson^® Credentialed Trainer during the course

This instructor-led virtual course contains interactive elements and will NOT be recorded. Registrants must attend the live video-conference event in order to be credited with successful completion. You will receive the course Zoom link and additional details prior to the start of the course.  

Fundations^® offers a highly structured reading and spelling curriculum using multisensory techniques. Through this research-based approach, students learn foundational skills and gain significant supports for reading, writing, and speaking. The five areas of reading instruction are addressed, with an emphasis on systematic phonics and word structure.



Course Content:

• Identify the skills taught in Fundations
• Understand the principles of instruction
• Identify and understand the use of all materials in the Fundations Teacher’s Kit
• Prepare a daily learning plan and practice lesson activity procedures
• Visualize the flow and pace of a full Fundations lesson completed with fidelity

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Registration with Springer School and Center is required for all training. Payment is fully refundable for cancellations made at least 21 days prior to the event date, less a $25 processing fee. Cancellations less than 3 weeks prior to the session will be refunded at 50% of tuition rate. Cancellations less than 48 hours before the session will not be refunded. While it is always a last resort, Springer reserves the right to cancel any program due to low enrollment or for reasons beyond our control. Should this occur, registrants will be notified immediately, and a full refund will be issued. Springer is not liable for any expenses incurred due to cancellation.
