Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche and our other teachers have taught that it is customary and beneficial to make a monetary offering on behalf of those for whom we are requesting prayers. This act of generosity protects those beings from accruing karmic debt and increases their connection to the blessings of the practices. The Practice of Vajrasattva

In general, Vajrasattva is considered the lord of all the Buddha Families with the specific activity of purification. To think of Vajrasattva even for a moment is said to remove the defilements that are the cause of rebirth in samsara. This Vajrasattva practice was originally called Minling Dorsem because it is the first Mindroling treasure revealer Terdak Lingpa’s treasure. HH Dudjom Rinpoche compiled this Dorsem Lama Chopa, a special offering guru yoga, based on this treasure. The 64-volume Rinchen Terdzö compiled by Jamgön Kongtrul and Jamyang Khyentse, begins with this Vajrasattva practice and it is considered the most important. Entitled “A Chariot of Great Merit,” the practice includes a self-empowerment (dak juk), which purifies all broken samaya. The ritual aspect of this sadhana is elaborate – a rich cycle of deity visualization, mantra, mudra, music and samadhi with the power to awaken our clarity of awareness, our original Buddha nature.

The Practice of Vajrakilaya

Vajrakilaya, the wrathful emanation of Vajrasattva, the Buddha of Purification, is a powerful deity to practice for removing obstacles, cutting through negativity, and swiftly progressing on the path. By practicing this profound treasure of His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche in a group setting, with all of the necessary ritual articles gathered, we have the opportunity to gather vast merit and root out our negative habits.

Just as Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche foretold, Vajrakilaya practice is an important method for the removal of the obstacles facing all inhabitants of the world, particularly in these challenging and degenerate times. This retreat contributes to the pacification of all obstructing forces occurring worldwide, in our country, community, and within our own minds. Obstacles manifest as outer, inner, and secret, and this practice can and will remove them when engaged with wisdom awareness and the pure intention to bring benefit to all living beings. In light of the many disturbing events and difficulties arising both globally and on a personal level at this time, we hope that everyone can join us in this sacred effort!
