Engineers are required to manage uncertain parameters and drive them to sound decisions.

Project requirements change, information is incomplete, priorities compete, and proven approaches do not always produce expected results. Experience, data, and analytical methods remain essential, but today’s challenges—and the growing use of AI—require engineers to operate effectively when the path forward is less certain. This one-day training uses practical examples and engineering cases to examine the human side of problem‑solving, decision‑making, leadership, and professional responsibility. Learn techniques to stay adaptable, draw on others’ knowledge, and maintain sound judgment when technical, business, and ethical considerations intersect.

Participants will learn to:

  • Recognize when professional assumptions and missed signals can limit their view of a problem
  • Make sound decisions when data is incomplete or conditions are in flux
  • Ask better questions and solicit diverse perspectives (including AI) to expand or clarify the problem
  • Normalize a culture of challenge
  • Apply professional judgment and ethical responsibility when safety, quality, risk, cost, schedule, and client expectations conflict (1 hour of Ethics)

Continuing Professional

Development Hours

EFO programs are designed to meet the requirements for Ohio’s continuing professional development (CPD) law and State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors (State Board of Registration) rules. EFO programs are also designed to comply with the law in KY, NC and WV. The program also meets CPD requirements in many additional states. Be sure to consult those states’ licensing authorities. For Ohio licensees, the State Board of Registration determines the acceptance of individual courses for CPD credit. The State Board of Registration does not preapprove any courses or course providers. Professionals should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program. In compliance with the State Board of Registration’s rules, we must track participant attendance for this virtual CPD program. Be sure to respond to the attendance verification questions in case you are audited by the State. CPD Certificates of Attendance will be emailed after the program.
