National Adoption Month: Wendy's Wonderful Kids Program

November is National Adoption Month, and includes National Adoption Day on November 20. Each year we like to recognize the incredible work of our Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption Program which includes Maine’s only Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK) Program, the signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Using the Child Focused Recruitment Model, Woodfords’ recruiters work to find permanent loving homes for Maine’s longest waiting children in foster care, including teens, children with special needs, and siblings.

For more than eight years, the WWK Recruiters have worked closely with the youth on their caseload and their networks to ensure each child receives the time, resources, and support they deserve dedicated to finding the right family for them.

Achieving a permanent placement for a youth is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a WWK Recruiter. After years of hard work, the recruiters have achieved the ultimate goal for many children in foster care: permanent, loving homes. To date, WWK recruiters have helped nearly 50 youth find permanent loving homes through adoptions and touched the lives of hundreds of families through their work throughout the state.

2021 Auction, Thank you Woodfords' World

Thank you to the many sponsors, donors, and friends who made this year’s virtual auction a great success. More than 119 participants bid on the 175 items in the auction which when combined with donations raised a total of $37,075 to support our programs and services in the on-going fight against COVID-19. We couldn’t have done this without our incredible sponsors and friends, thank you to all who joined us!

Think of Woodfords on Giving Tuesday!

Worldwide, Giving Tuesday, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the unofficial ‘holidays’ of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is recognized as a day to take a break from the typical hustle and bustle of holiday shopping to give back to the organizations and causes most dear to your hearts. This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to consider directing your donations to our holiday giving fund through our Facebook Fundraiser on Tuesday November 30 or through our website, to help support the individuals and families in our community who need it most this holiday season.

Donor Spotlight: Bissell Brothers 2021 'You Earned It Series'

We are so lucky to have such great friends in our corner willing to host benefit fundraisers of all kinds in support of our programs and services. For the second year in a row, our friends at Bissell Brothers Brewing have recognized Woodfords as a beneficiary in their ‘You Earned It Series’ with the launch of their new gluten free IPA, Blind Ambition.

The Bissell Brothers ‘You Earned it Series’ is a program where Bissell Brothers team members take turns brewing small batch beers on their pilot system and selecting a non-profit organization of their choice to benefit from a portion of its sales.

We had a great time meeting the Bissell Brothers team, taking a tour of their brewing operation at Thompson’s Point, and meeting their brewer Mat Weinstein, the brains behind Blind Ambition, who chose Woodfords as its beneficiary!

For those who want to try a new beer for a good cause, Blind Ambition is available on tap and in cans now at Bissell Brothers locations, a portion of the proceeds from this limited batch beer will benefit our programs, get it now before it’s too late!
