TCPUD sees the most number of customer water leaks in Summer!

It's important to plan ahead so you can 🌱 Spring into Water Conservation! 🌱

As the Tahoe sun starts shining a little brighter, it's the perfect time to get your garden and irrigation system ready — responsibly. Here are a few tips to help you save time, save water, and save money in your garden:

Use a soil moisture meter to know the best time to water your garden.

đź’§ Check before you water.

Just because it’s sunny doesn’t mean your soil is dry. The best way to know if your landscape needs water is with a moisture meter — and TCPUD water customers can get one for free! Stop by our office and pick one up while supplies last.

Or, visit us at the Tahoe-Truckee Earth Day Festival at Palisades Tahoe on Saturday, April 26 to pick up a moisture meter.

Visit tcpud.org/conservation for more water-saving tips.

🔧 Test your irrigation system.

When you turn on your system for the season, take a few minutes to check for leaks or broken sprinkler heads. A small leak can waste thousands of gallons over the summer.

⏱️ Update your watering schedule.

Spring weather is cooler and wetter than summer, so dial back your irrigation timer accordingly. Watering early in the morning is best to reduce evaporation.

🛑 Don’t forget about your backflow device!

If you have a backflow prevention assembly on your property, it must be tested and certified by July 31. Untested devices risk discontinuation of water service — so schedule your inspection early!
