Dreams, news headlines, personal moments, strange “what ifs." Hear and discuss why we tell stories – what drives us to write (and keeps us writing) – from universal motivations and personal origins, to finding inspiration in ordinary places and moments. We’ll explore how these ideas turn into stories, and what writing gives back to authors. |
Love, Mystery, Magic, and Mayhem – common threads flow across all genres. Whether you’re looking to read or write outside your comfort zone, we’ll explore the concept of genre jumping: what works, what to keep in mind, and what to watch out for when history meets fantasy, romance meets mystery, poetry meets nonfiction, humor meets horror – and how to find and write stories that resonate across time, worlds and realities. |
From subtle historical inspiration to richly detailed period settings, authors discuss how real events, eras, and overlooked stories influence their fiction. Topics might include balancing fact with imagination, giving voice to forgotten perspectives, and why the past continues to shape the stories we tell today. |
With humans returning to the moon for the first time in 60 years, it’s timely to explore why we’re endlessly drawn to space, the future, and the unknown? Two former NASA experts with real-world stories across missions from Apollo to Artemis, and even the International Space Station join sci-fi fiction authors discuss how our obsession with space and science fiction taps into wonder, fear, hope, and big questions about humanity—identity, technology, survival, and our place in the universe. Expect conversation that’s as philosophical as it is imaginative. |
| Why do we choose to be scared? This panel explores what horror gives readers at every age—whether it’s catharsis, adrenaline, emotional release, or a safe way to confront real‑world anxieties -- as we use fiction to reflect cultural fears, personal experiences, and deeper human truths.
