Service Animal & Employment Interview

Study Title: Use of Service Animals in Employment

Study Sponsor: The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research

Principal Investigator: Vinh Nguyen, JD, MBA, Southwest ADA Center

The Southwest ADA Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann is conducting a study on the experiences of people with disabilities, ages 18 and up, who use service animals or emotional support in the workplace. The Southwest ADA Center is a part of the ADA National Network, which is composed of ten regional ADA Centers across the country funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research to provide training and technical assistance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Whether you participate or not will not affect your relationship with the Southwest ADA Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann.

If you agree to participate in this study, the information gathered will help us:

1) understand how people with disabilities use service animals and emotional support animals to assist them in the workplace,

2) explore the experiences of these users and any barriers they may encounter at work, and

3) determine what factors contribute to successful employment outcomes.

These findings will also improve the trainings and technical assistance that the Southwest ADA Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann can provide on this topic.

The interview can be done by phone or Zoom, and will take about 30 minutes to complete. You do not have to answer any questions that you do not wish to answer.

There are no known risk as the information collected for this study does not contain identifiable information about you or your employer. The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, our funding agency, may review your answers, but you or your employer will not be identified in the research. Once the study is completed, your answers will also be archived to a research database maintained by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research and may be used by other researchers.

There is no cost, and you will be compensated with a $25 gift card to participate in the interview.
