Is there a project you’ve been putting off that you could accomplish with a team of volunteers? Hanover County will be participating in the national 9/11 Day of Service, a federally recognized day of service which has transformed September 11 into the largest day of service in America.
More than 30 million Americans and others participate in 9/11 day annually, dedicating time to helping others in need and rekindling the spirit of unity that brought Americans together in the days following the 9/11 tragedy.
We Need You! Organizations can participate in Hanover’s 9/11 Day of Service by providing opportunities for people to volunteer on Monday, September 11. Some examples of projects may include packing meals, grounds beautification, painting or generally assisting your agency. Organizations will be responsible for providing any materials needed for their volunteer projects.
Once projects are identified, we will promote them within the community and help engage Hanover County Government employees, Hanover residents and business members with these projects. We are partnering with HandsOn Greater Richmond, an organization that helps connect the Greater Richmond community with meaningful volunteer opportunities, to spread the word about this day of service.
Next Steps Anyone interesting in providing volunteer opportunities for Hanover County’s 9/11 Day of Service must attend a training with HandsOn Greater Richmond to learn how to register your organization and upload projects on their platform.
We are offering a training on Wednesday, August 16, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Hanover County Administration Board Room, 7516 County Complex Road. Once you have completed the training, you will be able to utilize HandsOn Greater Richmond to engage volunteers with any future service projects.
