Melissa Pathammavong is a Tucson native that learned to sew at the age of 7 on her mother's 1954 New Home Machine. She found her love for quilting during the time she was earning her bachelor's degree in Adolescence Education at the University of Arizona. After graduating, she spent 9 years teaching second grade for school districts in Tucson. During her time teaching she continued to quilt for her own enjoyment but to also make gifts for friends and family! In her free time, she enjoys all types of quilting, spending time with her two chihuahuas, traveling with her husband and solving sudoku puzzles. In 2019 she started working at Cathey’s Sewing & Vacuum and within a year was promoted to Director of Training and Education. Melissa has a passion for education and quilting and channels those passions through her career at Cathey’s and plans to continue sharing the joy of quilting with anyone who wants to learn.
