One member of this education team is Ian Robinson, Museum STEAM Educator and Astronomy Education Coordinator. Ian has worked at the museum for more than ten years and has developed a passion for STEAM education through his volunteer work at the Central Connecticut State University Planetarium and the New England Air Museum.
Ian loves the variety that comes with the role of museum educator. No day is ever the same with our large catalogue of programs and wide outreach range! One day he may be exploring the far off galaxies with students in New Britain, the next he may be teaching alongside our animal ambassadors out in Darien, or taking a day in the office to prototype a new idea with the 3-D printer. He loves the challenge of creating and delivering programs that cover a myriad of STEAM topics for diverse audiences.
As our Astronomy Education Coordinator and resident astronomer, Ian’s favorite programs to teach are anything done in Starlab, our portable planetarium. The excitement the inflatable dome brings to everyone who gets to go inside is palpable. He loves answering all the questions students have about space and finding new ways to make learning fun. There are lots of funny jokes in Ian’s night sky tours. With a Masters in Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology, it’s no surprise that in his spare time, Ian can be found building, mostly with Legos, or working on other small 3-D projects. Ian is often easy to spot as he loves a theme day and sport a silly, seasonal hat.
