The Official Colorado Tartan

The First Record of the Colorado State Tartan

Designed by the illustrious Rev. John B. Pahls in 1995 and officially adopted by the Colorado General Assembly on March 3rd, 1997, this tartan is not just a fashion statement; it’s a vibrant tapestry of history and symbolism. Imagine the serene blue of the sky over the Rockies, mingling gracefully with the deep greens of towering pines, all while lavender and white dance in homage to the majestic granite peaks and the delicate columbine—the state flower. And let’s not forget the radiant gold, a nod to the mineral riches that fueled Colorado's early economy, paired with the bold red that pays tribute to the state’s very name, derived from the Spanish word for 'red.' It’s a colorful ode to the state’s natural beauty and industrious spirit, wrapped up in a fabric that’s as rich in meaning as it is in style!
