The Venue

Set in the beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, Penpont Estate offers extensive, well-kept grounds on the banks of the river Usk. A hedge maze, walled kitchen garden, courtyards, woodland, lawns and a riverside wood-fired sauna are just some of the attractions. The yoga hall is in a gorgeous converted barn, well ventilated and with a wooden floor. Penpont is family-run to high ecological standards and offers a perfect setting for deep release and quiet practice.

The Accommodation

The Food

The wonderful Gina’s Cantina will be providing a delicious and nutritious summer menu, all thoughtfully designed to complement the programme of yoga classes and making use of the seasonal organic fruit and veg grown onsite. Lunch and dinner provided daily, as well as early morning herb-tea and mid-morning hot drinks of choice. Please note that all places are full-board only.

The Yoga

Faithful to the methodology of BKS Iyengar and creatively incorporating what she has had the good fortune to learn from her teachers, Jenny-May will guide a collaborative retreat experience deigned to heal, strengthen and liberate body and mind. The programme will be based around daily practice of āsana and prānāyāma, with time for deep relaxation, mantra and meditation.

A minimum of 6 months in Iyengar yoga classes is required to participate. Those with serious health problems or injuries should enquire before booking.

About Jenny-May

Jenny-May While is a Level 3 Iyengar Yoga Teacher and Teacher Trainer. She has been practising yoga since age 16 in the ‘90s and discovered Iyengar yoga in 2000, since when she has studied with advanced teachers in India, Europe and the UK. She completed her Introductory Teacher Training with Faeq Biria in 2007. Jenny-May is a student of Jayne Orton at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Birmingham and attended the post-compulsory Intermediate Teacher Training (Levels 1-3) with Faeq and Corine Biria and Patxi Lizardi in Paris between 2012 and 2015.

In 2014 she founded Hereford Yoga CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise with the aim of making Iyengar yoga more widely recognised and practiced, especially amongst hard to reach groups. This led to the opening of Hereford Yoga Centre in January 2017.

Jenny-May’s teaching is up-beat and down-to-earth; an embodied exploration of the curious experience of being alive. She creates a friendly and inclusive space, allowing people to cultivate a disciplined practice in a fun and open environment.

Equipment

Please bring your own Iyengar yoga kit (1 mat, 2 blankets, 2 bricks, 4 foam blocks, 2 belts, 1 bolster). We will provide yoga chairs (and some spare bolsters). For those unable to bring the kit, there is an option to hire.
