Join us as we begin a fall series of monthly open-house-style programming featuring a variety of themes and activities for the entire family! Each event includes an engaging presentation, crafts for the family and a guided/self-paced night walk on the boardwalk. An old-fashion campfire with songs and, of course, s’mores is the perfect ending. Bring your own seating to enjoy the fire! Space is limited to 45 people. We will be using the entire building and then be outside, following social spacing guidelines.

When: Friday nights this fall (see dates below)

Time: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Cost: $15.00/person (4 years and up) - includes nighttime access to Center grounds, main presentation, kids craft/activity, campfire with songs and one s'more per guest!

Nighttime is the Right Time for Texas Frogs and Toads

6:00 - 9:00 pm

Join us for an evening celebrating some of our favorite Texas amphibians. Jessie Crowley will be bringing a collection of her live native Texas frogs and toads! Guests will learn how to ID frogs and toads by sound, and then we’ll head out onto the boardwalk after sunset for an amphibian watch! We’ll wrap up this evening with s’mores and campfire songs around the firepit. The event includes a froggy craft for our younger guests, and we’ll have a Fat Frog Cocktail for an additional fee for our guests over 21.

Hunters of the Night: Bats & Owls

Owls and bats have amazing adaptations that allow them to be THE hunters of the night! BCI Bat Ambassador Carol Garrison will share some amazing information about these creatures and lead a stroll on the boardwalk to enjoy the darkness of the wetland. An educational owl from Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will be part of this amazing evening. Have some fun and dress up in your favorite bat or Halloween custom; we'll have a prize for the best adult and youth costumes! Younger guests will enjoy a nocturnal creature craft, and guests over 21 can enjoy a Bat Bite Cocktail for an additional fee.

Coyotes in the City

Join us in November when Texas Parks and Wildlife Urban Biologist Rachel Richter will be presenting about this highly adaptive native Texas mammal. Enjoy a cool-weather boardwalk, campfire songs and s'mores. Younger guests will have a coyote craft to take home, and guests over 21 can enjoy a Coyote Margarita for an additional fee.

Christmas at the Wetland

Celebrate the winter holidays with us at the Wetland! Join us for a down-to-earth celebration with a Christmas carol sing-a-long, hot chocolate around the campfire and a special visit by Father Christmas! Make and take away a handmade Christmas ornament to remind you of the Wetland! This event will be held outside, so dress warmly and bring a blanket and chair for the campfire. Traditional wassail adult beverage available for addional purchase for guests over 21.
