Age-Friendly Bergen Roundtable is an offshoot of the Age-Friendly NJ alliance. Its inaugural meeting in March 2023 established that there was a need and desire for Bergen County’s network of age-friendly community leaders, health providers, social service agencies and older-adult stakeholders to meet regularly to share information and ideas. 

The mission is to collaborate on ways to make this region a great place to live at any age. Roundtable gatherings feature speakers, presentations and networking on important topics connected to aging services and community life. Subjects covered have ranged from transportation, housing, food security, mental health, home- and community-based care, disability services, senior centers and more. 

A central theme at every meeting is how we can foster better collaboration and how we can join together as advocates to increase awareness of the aging-in-place challenges faced in our region and across the state.

Connecting the Resource & Referral Dots

One of the more pressing problems for older adults and others is not knowing where to go for the help they need. Many turn to their health care providers or to town officials, who also may not be aware of the many programs, benefits and resources available to their residents.

The meeting will open with brief presentations by providers of services about the programs and services they offer. This will be followed by networking and exchanging contact information and resources.

Service providers, social workers, senior center directors, health care/public health providers, discharge planners, librarians, recreation department leaders, municipal clerks and other town leaders who serve as “navigators” to their local residents.
