74.17 State Legislative Update  | May 11, 2023

The General Assembly adjourned Sine Die late on Monday evening May 8, 2023. The legislative session was everything we expected and not.

We were able to defeat and amend more legislation than expected given the new structure of this legislature.

Bills that were defeated included the Fair Workweek Scheduling and Rent Control. Just Cause Evictions was voted out of committee but was never debated on the Senate floor and died on the legislative calendar. We defeated two banking ESG bills early in the session.

We amended bills that would have been harmful to business.

As with any session, we did not get everything we wanted, but we worked well with the business community to ensure a strong economy and future for Colorado.

The final legislative wrap-up can be found here.

A final thought:

This legislative session the House introduced 311 bills and the Senate introduced 306 bills. There were also resolutions and memorials. Each bill has an opportunity to be amended or revised in committee and during floor debate in each chamber. What happens to all that paper? As I was leaving the Capitol on May 8, the recycling bins were moving in.
