Project Oak Street & West Downtown Area

Update 12/02/2023:

Paving to resume this weekend, weather permitting

Paving is set to resume on Sunday, December 3, weather and asphalt plant conditions permitting. Capital Paving crews estimate to finish this portion of the work by Tuesday. Please be advised that the City is working with its contractor crews to finish this project as soon as possible and as the weather allows.

The City's primary remaining tasks include:

  • Finishing asphalt paving
  • Completing asphalt driveway connections to new streets
  • Completing concrete driveways
  • Pouring sidewalk along S. 7th Street
  • Backfilling, seeding, and strawing along new asphalt and sidewalk.

Although cold and wet weather conditions and some mechanical issues have slowed down crews' progress, the City and its contractors are working to complete this complex revitalization project as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Happy Holidays!

Update 11/22/2023:

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are thankful for your support during the completion of this major infrastructure project.

As we approach Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude to the Oak St. & West Downtown Project area residents and drivers impacted by this project.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation, allowing crews to move as swiftly and efficiently as possible throughout your neighborhood to complete this project. From water to fire protection, sewer to streets, we have solved infrastructure and roadway issues impacting this neighborhood for years.

With just a few more minor items on the list, the City's goal is to complete this project before the end of the year, keeping in mind that some of these tasks are contingent upon the weather.

"We know it has been a trying time, and construction fatigue is real. However, we are so thankful that the Citizens of Ozark have allowed us to take on much-needed projects like this one," said Public Works Director Jeremy Parsons.

The Oak St. and West Downtown project is one of many only made possible with voters approving the Transportation Sales Tax. The City is grateful for your trust. You have invested in your community, and this investment will pay dividends for years to come. Our goal is that all residents are proud to call this neighborhood and Ozark home.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The final phase of asphalt paving will temporarily impact access to your street.

We respectfully ask that residents keep vehicles off the street Monday, November 13 through Wednesday, November 15. Crews will be applying a bonding agent known as asphalt tack.

Capital Paving crews will make their way through the neighborhood in the next two days. Please keep all vehicles off the asphalt and away from the new pavement until the final layer of asphalt has been applied. You can resume traffic and parking once the final layer is applied and crews are off your street.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to near the completion of this neighborhood improvement project.

Respectfully, Ozark Public Works.

Construction crews are scheduled to start paving the first course of black-base asphalt on Friday, October 20. See the streets impacted in the map below.

If you're a resident in the area, we respectfully ask that you please remove your vehicles from the streets and driveway aprons so crews can safely pave this first layer of asphalt.

This work will impact several streets in the area, including W Robertson Street from 8th to South 4th streets. And also South 8th, 7th, 6th, and 4th streets from W Oak St. to West Robertson.

We understand that construction work can be disruptive, but we hope you'll bear with us as we approach the finish line of this project to make our community a better place.

Update 10/11/2023:

South 7th, South 8th and West Robertson streets will be impacted on Friday, Oct. 13.

Concrete construction will temporarily block driveway access for some residents.

Contractors will continue the construction of curb and gutter and some driveways along 7th, 8th, and Robertson Streets on Friday, October 13.

Access to your driveways will be impacted during this phase of the street improvement project. We respectfully ask that all residents park in alternative locations within the street right-of-way while the concrete crews work. Please note that the concrete will require time to cure properly.

Residents will be notified once access to the driveways has been restored. We understand that this may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue toward the completion of this large infrastructure project.

Respectfully, Ozark Public Works.

Update 9/28/2023:

The intersection of W. Oak St. and S. 9th St. is back open!

Dear residents in the Oak St. and West Downtown Area,

We are thrilled to announce that the intersection of Oak St. and 9th St. has reopened!

Spire Energy’s contractor has completed the relocation of the natural gas infrastructure at the intersection of Oak and 9th Streets, allowing the City of Ozark to safely move forward with our portion of the roadway improvements, which includes resurfacing the roads, and curb and gutter construction in certain areas to help control stormwater runoff.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we complete the final phase of the Oak St. and West Downtown Project. We are excited to move on to the next milestone.

Update 9/28/2023:

Pardon Our Progress: Concrete construction to temporarily block driveway access for some residents

Residents within the Project Oak Street & West Downtown Area,

We would like to inform you that access along South 6th Street and West Robertson Street will be impacted on Friday, Sept. 29, all day as crews complete curb, gutter, and driveway construction. We ask that you please park in the street for the duration of this work and subsequent concrete drying.

Construction crews will be working on driveways along the West 400 Block of Robertson Street and the South 300 Block of 6th St. Access to driveways along this location will be blocked and we respectfully ask that residents please park in alternative locations within the street right-of-way while concrete crews pour the curb and gutter, and certain driveway entrances.

The concrete will need additional time to cure properly. Residents will be notified once safe access to the driveways is reestablished.

We understand that this may cause inconvenience and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we approach the completion of this project.

Respectfully, Ozark Public Works

Update 9/15/2023:

Pardon our Progress: Oak & 9th St. intersection to be CLOSED from Sept. 18 - 27

The intersection of W. Oak St. and S. 9th St. will be closed from Sept 18 - 27

as crews begin the relocation of the gas main in the area.

We kindly request that all drivers avoid the area and find alternative routes to your destination. Road closed signs will be placed.

The City of Ozark Public Works is in the final phase of the Oak St. and West Downtown Project, which involves resurfacing the roads and curb and gutter construction on some streets. The city's utility improvements have been completed; this next step will relocate other infrastructure.

In this case, Spire Energy has existing natural gas infrastructure in the public right-of-way that must be relocated before crews can safely finish the roadway improvements.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation throughout this entire process. While the goal is to improve the infrastructure of the streets, this project will preserve the unique character and charm of this established neighborhood. We are close to the finish line!

During this phase, you may notice that the guide stake markings are intentionally placed off the pavement edge, approximately 4 ft away. We kindly request that you refrain from removing these guide stakes and drive around them with caution. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Demolition will take place on select streets for new curb and gutter to be constructed to help properly manage the stormwater.

Please be aware that there may be temporary road closures within the area as our crews complete the remaining tasks and conduct necessary clean-up. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we will do our best to minimize disruption to your daily routine.

Right now we are approximately 10% complete with the sewer improvement contract.

Once the water and sewer infrastructure has been fully constructed, crews will start a complete reconstruction of the streets throughout the project area. The street project design and engineering has been completed and the reconstruction of the streets will commence in the final phase of the project.

One last note: This is a very active construction zone. Please remember to slow down! Help us create safe working conditions for city staff and its contractors as crews continue improvements. Be mindful of the men and women at work and slow down as you drive through the area. Road Work signs have been placed along the work route and the Ozark Police Department has been assisting with patrol. Crews are working diligently to finish this project in a timely manner. We appreciate your cooperation! " Staff will provide additional updates as we continue to make progress on this critical downtown revitalization project.”

Update 4/14/2023:

Thanks to another great week of weather, crews continued to make substantial progress on replacing the water lines throughout portions of the project area. Several hundred linear feet of new 8” water main was installed along 5th, 6th, and Robertson Streets. The staff has provided some progress photos, including a few pictures of the new fire hydrants that will provide increased fire protection throughout this neighborhood.

Next week will be another active time period. Our second crew of contractors has started mobilizing to help tackle some additional water line replacement along 4th Street. Crews will also begin working on replacing the aging sanitary sewer lines.  Activity will increase in the area, so we ask for everyone to please use an abundance of caution, follow the construction signage, and remember to slow down when driving through any work zones. Our number one goal throughout this entire project is to make sure that all our staff and contractors go home safely at the end of each shift.

Update 4/5/2023:

Crews began working on replacing the water mains on 3/27/2023. Right now the focus is on replacing the old 4” water main with a new 8” water main that runs east and west along Robertson Street. This will help provide increased flow and fire protection. Traffic will continue to be impacted along Robertson Street.

The general contractors will be meeting on Monday, April 10th, to discuss the next phase of the infrastructure improvements. City staff will provide more updates as the project progresses. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to make these much-needed improvements.
