Resource Spotlight - In Person

Description: Resource Spotlight connects you with local community resources through guest speakers who share up-to-date information on services, eligibility, and contacts in an interactive, welcoming setting. Held at Vista Center’s Conference Room, each session covers topics like health and safety, nutrition, legal and support services, transportation, and more!

Topic: Join us this month for a special Resource Spotlight featuring Cabrillo Host Lions Club, a local chapter of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service club organization, based in Aptos and serving the Santa Cruz County community. The Lions will share more about their club, membership, and community service projects — including a preview of their upcoming "Dining in the Dark" event happening in early October. We look forward to an informative and engaging session connecting our community with local service opportunities.

About: At California Connect, with the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunication Program (DDTP), is funded by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the program’s goal is to make it easier for every Californian with speech, hearing, vision, mobility, or cognitive disabilities to connect with the world around them in a way that is comfortable and convenient for them. The program’s accessible products and services are available at no cost, removing financial barriers. We believe that equal access to communication is not a privilege, but a right.

Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Walk - In Person

2nd Annual White Cane Awareness Day

Date: Thursday, October 8th, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Location: Palo Alto City Hall, (250 Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94301)

Cost: Free community event, donations encouraged. No registration required.

The white cane is a powerful symbol of dignity, self-determination, and independent travel. Come walk with us to celebrate achievements across the low-vision and blind community and raise awareness for safe, independent mobility.

Individuals living with vision loss, staff, volunteers, and community members will gather to participate in a community fundraising walk through downtown Palo Alto, followed by a celebration of accessibility, inclusion, and independence.

Come ready to share your own tips, pick up new ones, and get set for a successful (and stress-free) holiday shopping season!

Braille at Your Pace - In Person

Description: Led by experienced instructor Tiffany Thomas, this in-person course will cover both reading and writing Braille in personalized, one-hour sessions. Whether you’re just beginning with Grade 1 or ready to tackle Grade 2, this flexible class is designed to support you at every stage of your Braille journey.
