GWYNN WALKER DI PILLA

DALE MEYERS COOPER AWARD AND MEDAL FOR WATERCOLOR

Gwynn Walker Di Pilla’s artist statement provided the perfect description for her painting of a close-up glass doorknob casting shadows and spidery reflections, which was selected for the $1,000 Dale Meyers Cooper Award and Medal for Watercolor. “My goal is for my work to take ordinary objects and scenes, and make them extraordinary. I seek to employ dramatic lighting and vibrant colors in an effort to offer the viewer an opportunity to engage with subjects from a perspective not previously considered.”

She received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Temple University and Tyler School of Art (through an affiliation with Messiah College) and pursued a career as an art teacher. From 2002-2006, Gwynn returned to school at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia where she studied drawing and painting for four years under the prestigious painter Nelson Shanks.

Beginning in 2010, she began entering juried art exhibits and achieved signature member status in the Philadelphia Watercolor Society (PWCS), Garden State Watercolor Society (GSWCS), the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), and the New Jersey Watercolor Society (NJWCS). She has won numerous awards, including Margaret Martin Memorial Award from the American Watercolor Society (AWS) in 2021, of which she is also a signature member. She is a resident of Haddonfield, NJ.
