| What is the Guthrie Center? The Guthrie Center, deeply rooted in a rich artistic and cultural heritage, was founded by Arlo Guthrie in 1992. Located in the church made famous by the Alice's Restaurant Massacree, for over 30 years the Center has consistently provided a variety of programs and events that benefit both local and global communities. Its inception was driven by a desire to honor and perpetuate the legacies of Arlo’s parents: the iconic folk singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie and the accomplished dancer and choreographer Marjorie Mazia-Guthrie. Though their spirits remain ever-present in what we do, our current mission largely reflects the goals of our founder. Arlo’s own career, spanning over 60 years, continues to inspire us as we embody his belief that “there are no throw away people”. At its core, The Guthrie Center serves as a vibrant hub, a dynamic space dedicated to fostering cultural, educational, and spiritual exchange among individuals from all walks of life. It provides a welcoming environment where people can come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and engage in meaningful experiences that enrich their lives and broaden their perspectives. Through a diverse array of programs, workshops, performances, and community events, The Center continues to uphold the vision of its founder, celebrating the enduring power of art, education, and shared human experience.
Our Mission The Guthrie Center seeks to cultivate cultural preservation, promote educational achievement and foster community outreach to meet the ongoing needs of the community. |
