UMB CURE Scholars Program

STEM Programming Instructor


The UMB CURE Scholars Program is a groundbreaking pipeline program that prepares middle and high school students from West Baltimore for competitive careers in healthcare and STEM fields. Scholars engage in hands-on learning, small-scale research investigations, and college and career readiness activities year-round. The CURE program also takes on a family-style approach, offering social emotional support services as well as community-building events and celebrations year-round.

 

CURE is looking to recruit instructors, informal STEM educators, and/or para educators that can teach in-person at the middle and high school levels.


Schedule and Compensation:

The program operates from October 26, 2024 - May 10, 2025, with a winter recess from mid-December to mid-January.


Stipend amount: ($40/ hour)


Teachers are needed for the following courses:

All CURRICULUM AND MATERIALS PROVIDED

6th Grade Food Science (T/TH 3:30-5:30)

7th Grade Anatomy (T/TH 3:30-5:30)

Middle School Saturday Academy Instructors (Saturdays 9 am- 1pm)

9th Grade Bioscience and Health Careers (Saturdays 9 am- 1pm)

10th Grade Research Methods (Saturdays 9 am- 1pm)

11th Grade Independent Research Design (Saturdays 9 am- 1pm)

 

Duties include:


1. Carrying out provided lesson plans two times a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30pm).

2. Managing the classroom.

3. Working with CURE staff to ensure accurate classroom attendance records

4. If employed at a CURE partner school, assisting in obtaining Scholars school data from (e.g., report cards and standardized test scores; updates family contact information; etc.).

 

Qualifications:

·        Experience teaching STEM to adolescents and/or teaching public audiences

·        Must have a passion for social change and youth development

·        Experience working with youth in under-resourced communities is preferred
