7 Tips for Cleaning Your Dock Equipment

Loading Doors - If a door's slow or squeaks a lot, it needs some lubrication. If the door cannot close, makes clicking sounds, or comes off its tracks, it's time for maintenance. Inspect the door ratchet bar as well, if it is worn, it needs replacing as soon as possible to avoid potential accidents.

Dock Seals – Inspect for cracked or torn seals. Press the seals in and pull them out to test. You can also visually check; once during daytime, and once at night with a flashlight to better see the cracks you might have missed during the daytime inspection.

Brushes - They should be intact all the way through. Shine a light past them with someone else standing on the opposite side. They should not see any light through the brushes. If they do, the brushes aren't holding properly & need replacement.

Dock Lights – Dock lights help with warehouse production. Inspect at night to help determine if any of the dock lights are out and need replacing.

Docks - Grab a box and walk up & down the dock, back and forth until you've covered the whole thing paying close attention to if you feel any weak areas or teetering. Also, watch how water flows off the dock. If a dock plate's unstable or the leveler's uneven, you'll see a shudder in the runoff. If any of this occurs, you’ll need dock maintenance.

Bug Doors - Bug doors can tear at seams or even develop holes from use over time. Easily find the tears/holes with a flashlight with a close side to side inspection.

Cleaning Door Frames/Docks - Shine a flashlight up and around the door frame; dust collections should catch the light. Sweep, mop, and dust around every dock to help clean out the debris that may be stuck under and around area.
