2024 National Prevention Town Hall: Mountain Region

Tuesday and Wednesday, September 24th and 25th

What does prevention look like when rooted in community and culture, outside of systems? As we continue to navigate the impact of COVID and the many related shifts we’ve experienced in the past years, our values have transformed and so must our strategies. The 5th annual National Prevention Town Hall will feature anti-violence prevention approaches in the Mountain region of the United States.

Join us in exploring creative, sustainable approaches for advancing social change in the face of uncertainty. Across all aspects of our movement work - from housing rights to survivor healing to restorative justice - each of us plays a critical part in creating the world we wish to live in together.

Peeling Back the Layers: Unpacking and Combatting Infantilization of People with Intellectual Disabilities

Tuesday, September 24th

Infantilization - the practice of treating adults with intellectual disabilities as children - is a widespread issue that undermines independence and dignity of people with disabilities. It is also one reason why people with disabilities experience higher rates of victimization than people without disabilities and it is at the root of why many survivors of domestic and sexual violence with intellectual disabilities report not getting the support they need from victim services programs.

In this interactive webinar, we will explore the deep-rooted connections between societal attitudes and the treatment of adults with intellectual disabilities.

Sustaining Wellbeing for BIPOC Advocates in the Gender-Based Violence Movement

Thursday, October 17th

The work to end gender-based violence can take a profound toll on our bodies, minds, and spirits. It’s easy to let our own well-being take a back seat as we push for social change and support survivors. For BIPOC advocates, the intersection of advocacy work with additional layers of systemic oppression can intensify this strain. This interactive session is free and open to advocates who identify as Black, Indigenous, or as a Person of Color. Participate in discussions, connect with peers, and gain insights to sustain your well-being and continue your work with renewed strength.
