Preparing for Childbirth - 2 part workshop

The Women’s Resource Centre is committed to supporting women in transition at various stages of life.

We believe that all women should have access to the support services they need to have the best possible pre and postnatal experiences.

We are excited to partner with It Takes A Village Foundation and Feven Binega-Northcott of Harmony Birth Services to offer these childbirth classes to women in our community.

The two-part series is designed for pregnant women in their second and third trimester and will cover the following topics:

  • The physiology of birth – what your body is actually doing to grow your baby!
  • Questions to ask your caregivers.
  • Ways to deal with stress and pressure during pregnancy.
  • The role of birth partners.
  • Recognising the onset of labour.
  • The different stages of labour.
  • Optimising physiology for straightforward birth.
  • Positions for labour & birth.
  • Simple but truly effective breathing techniques.
  • Interventions in pregnancy & labour.
  • Types of pain relief.
  • Cesarean Birth.
  • Decision making.
  • Writing a birth plan.
  • How lactation works & infant feeding.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their birthing partner (the person who will support them through labour and delivery) to the sessions.

The next session will be held on

from 2pm - 5pm.

About our facilitator:

Feven was born and raised in Ethiopia. She moved to Bermuda after meeting her Bermudian husband, Jonathan. She first became interested in birth work when researching options for VBAC (Vaginal Birth After a Cesarean). She then trained as a birth doula shortly after giving birth to her second child. She is working as a doula, and most recently as a childbirth educator, lactation counsellor and trainer for childbirth international. In addition, Feven is a passionate Montessori teacher for the early years with over 17 years of experience.

Over the years, Feven has become increasingly involved in birth and parenting advocacy, and perinatal mental health work in her community. She is passionate about providing culturally responsive, evidence-informed, inclusive support to parents during their unique birth and parenting journey.

Feven feels incredibly privileged to have companioned families through their birth and parenting journeys over the last 14 years.

About our sponsor:

The It Takes A Village Foundation exists to ensure that every woman and her child(ren) living in Bermuda, regardless of financial ability, has access to pregnancy, birth and post-partum education and access to a package of support during early child-rearing years.

It Takes a Village aims to provide a multifaceted level of consistent support including the provision of education, food and equipment not currently offered by the statutory authorities or other charitable organizations on island.

This would mean that for the most vulnerable woman, there would be an avenue for new hope, growth and change for them from conception through their child’s early years. For others, it offers the opportunity for education, birth, postpartum, psychological and other support needs to be fulfilled where extra financial resources are not available. We know that the time around a birth is a sensitive period in which families have a unique openness to change, to learn, and to grow.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
