The Children's Museum & Roaring Brook Nature Center Education Programs

Fall Newsletter

We led hands-on, enrichment classes at schools supporting New Britain’s Summer Learning Experiences program. Students at Horizons at Ethel Walker School explored the solar system in Starlab, our portable planetarium, as a part of their programming series. Hartford families went to the Moon and Roaring Brook Nature Center in our “Bringing STEAM to Hartford Neighborhoods” summer series hosted at seven branches of the Hartford Public Library.

As the new school year begins, our team has been busy developing new curriculum and refreshing well-loved programs like Crime Lab and Natures Engineers. We are looking to support school districts in meeting new state requirements by using our resources like Roaring Brook’s Native American Longhouse and focusing new programs on climate change. We’ve also been learning the ins and outs of 3-D printing and prototyping thanks to a grant from Ahearn Family Foundation.

Our educators will be attending and presenting at conferences this fall, including the Association for Science and Technology Centers in Charlotte, NC and the New England Museum Association in Portland, ME to gather some new ideas and share our successes.
