FAQ

Arrival and departure

Q. What is the check-in time on arrival day?

A. Check-in time is 4 p.m. – this give you plenty of driving time if you’re driving, and if you’re flying, you can fly in same day with plenty of time to get to the resort.

Q. Can I show up early?

A. We discourage this, as we only get an hour for setup, and so we won’t have time to check you in any earlier than 4 p.m. (If you do come early, you may be put to work on the set-up crew ;).

Q. What if I show up late?

A. If you’re going to be later than 6 p.m., let us know so that we can save you some dinner!

Q. What time is checkout?

A. Check out of the guest rooms at 11 a.m. on the day of departure. Check out of the sewing space at 12 noon.

Airport Information

Q. Where is the nearest airport?

A. If you’re flying in, you’ll land at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It’s 50 miles from the resort property, so you’ll need to rent a car.

Q. I’m flying in, and I hate to trust my sewing machine to the airline staff…

A. We have a limited number of basic Brother and Baby Lock machines available to rent. The cost is $50 for the week. Check the box on the registration form, and we’ll save one for you.

Q. Do you provide shuttle service from the airport?

A. At this time, we don’t provide rides from the airport, but it’s something we are considering for the future. We can get you in touch with other guests who are flying in so that you can rideshare together, if you like.

Accommodations

Q. Can I have a single room?

A. It’s possible to have a room to yourself, but since there are no single rooms, you’ll need to pay an additional cost.

Q. Can I bring a service animal?

A. Trained service animals are welcome, but pets must stay at home.

Q. Can I share a room with two people?

A. We do have some three-bed rooms available on a limited basis. Be sure to ask.

Q. What if I’m not coming with a friend?

A. We can match you with a roommate so you can make a new retreat friend!

Q. Can my spouse be my roommate? They won’t sew with us.

A. Your spouse can absolutely be your roommate, but there will be an extra charge for the room and for the meal plan, if they’ll be eating with the group.

Q. Do the rooms have private bathrooms?

A. Yes. Each room has a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Q. What’s included in our guest rooms?

A. Linens, towels, hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner are provided by the resort.

The rooms are NOT equipped with hair dryers, lotion, or TV. Free wi-fi is available, however, so feel free to pack a personal device such as a laptop or iPad if you want in-room entertainment.

A. You can request vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free meals. Just let us know your dietary needs when you sign up, and we’ll take care of it for you at no extra cost.

A. Yes. Alcoholic beverages are allowed in any of our privately rented spaces - i.e. the sewing room or your guest room. However, it is not permitted in the public areas of the resort. It's goes without saying that loud and disruptive partying is highly frowned upon.

Q. Are there snacks available while we sew?

A. Yes! We provide some snack options, and often, attendees will bring snacks to share.

Q. Is there somewhere to fill my water bottle?

A. Yes! The resort sets us up with fresh ice water daily. In addition, you can get water and ice at the dining hall during mealtimes -- just bring along your water bottle. We also have a coffee maker and coffee available to us in the sewing room, and depending on the season, a coffee shop on the property.

The Sewing Space

Q. Is there plenty of light in the sewing room?

A. The sewing room has large windows and is well lit, though you may want to bring an extra light for night sewing.

Q. Is there an instructor there who teaches a specific quilt pattern?

A. No. These are open sew retreats, unless otherwise specified. You’ll bring your own projects to work on. We do occasionally offer demos on new techniques.

Q. Are the sewing chairs comfy?

A. Yes, the chairs are upholstered, and quite comfortable. That said, you're free to bring along your favorite sewing cushion if you'd like.

Q. What if I need fabric or a notion?

A. We have a pop-up quilt shop right in the sewing room for your convenience.

Q. Will I need to bring my own iron?

A. We provide ironing stations and irons, so you won't need to bring an iron or ironing board. We also set up large cutting stations as well. You'll want to bring your own rulers and rotary cutters.

Payments and refunds

Q. What if I sign up but can't go? Is my fee refundable?

A. Your deposit is non-refundable, but it is transferrable, so someone else could go in your place.

Q. How close are we to the beach?
